Right now I am looking into getting my second high quality knife. As the title states I would like a big folder (3.75-5 inches). Ideas: SOG Spec. Elite 2, Benchmade Rukus, CRKT Hissatsu, SOG Visionary 2, Gerber Applegate, Spyderco Endura 4, and lastly the Spyderco Miliary. Your inputs are most appreciated.

From your list, I would go with the Spyderco Military, hands down...

If you want bigger, check out the Cold Steel Voyager series. The Voyager XL and the Voyager X2 are HUGE and not a bad deal for the price ($60 & $72 respectively).

(But the Military is sill my first choice ;))

(skip ahead to 5:15 to see the XL)

Get a Fallkniven PXL.

In my oppinion, its fit and finish are about as good as a Chris Reeve folder. Its not nearly as costly. It may not be your thing though since its not very 'tactical'.

Is probably THE smoothest knife I have including Sebenza, Unumzaan, Spyderco, etc.

Check it out. It does not disappoint.

I've owned the Benchmade Rukus and its overall length makes it the longest folder I've ever handled. It is longer than the Spyderco Endura 4 Spyderco Miliary and a good bit heavier with a wider blade than either knife. It is thicker, too.

The Strider SMF is pricey, but in that size range. The Sypderco Police has a about the longest blade I can think of. Cold Steel makes some monster-sized folders, too. I think the Espada is one of the biggest folders made.

Depends on your needs. If you need a "tank" then I'd suggest you ditch the folder and get a FB; that or a ZT/Rukus. If you want a large cutter then the Spyderco Military won't let you down. The Kershaw JYD2 in titanium/SG2 looks classy as well.

If you just want to scare people with a pocket sword then Voyager works pretty well :D Never tried it to cut...just handled and it was way too big.

Of those you mentioned I'd say the Spyderco Military. It screams quality.

Not on your list I'd suggest a ZT 0500 MUDD. Blade length is right at your minimum of 3.75". If you are going to be using the folder in any sort of dirty environment, this will hold up the best as far as cleaning goes, not to mention lockup being rock solid with no play.

If it's any difference to you, the Military clip is right hand tip down only. The ZT 0500 MUDD is left or right hand tip up only. Theoretically the steel of the Military (S30V) is better than the ZT 0500 (154CM), but I don't really notice any difference in day to day use or sharpening. The Military is more of a slicer, but it is still a decently beefy blade. The 0500 is very, very sharp as well, but seems to be built for a little more aggressive cutting as opposed to straight up slicing. The 0500 is probably going to run you about $20 or so more than the Military if that makes a difference to you.

You can't go wrong either way. Someone will probably be along shortly to tell you to buy them all and sell what you don't like. ;)

I vote for the Rukus with it's awesome AXIS lock. Everyone needs to try out the AXIS. Even the mini-rukus might be big enough for you.

I've had two of the PXL folders but had to get rid of them about a year ago. I agree with your assessement on their quality, and that is the reason I have my third one, maroon micarta coming in next Wednesday! A really great folder!

It depends on how you are going to use the knife. If regular edc is likely then I would go with either the Endura or Military as they carry very well in the pocket. If money isn't an issue then I'd go with the Military.
