OK, another attempt by the TV execs to give us an entertaining show about knifemaking. However, I gotta think it looks pretty one-dimensional. Anyone here know the maker and what do you guys think about the show concept?

I saw a commercial for that. It doesn't look very good to me, but who knows? I've been wrong before.

The write-up sounds pretty lame. Sure sounds like just another "reality" show with not much more than fake drama. Does anyone really believe these shows?

Who knows... I'm often amazed by some of the absolute crap that's been on TV for years and continues to get high ratings. There've been how many find-a-wife/husband shows, world's-best-karaoke singers, and at least a dozen alphabet soup military/cop/crime scene shows recycling the same script every week? Apparently, there are a whole lot of really bored people out there.

James ,you must be very young. In the early days of TV most stations didn't run at night except fot the continous test patterns ! There were people who watched those test patterns ALL THROUH THE NIGHT !! But those test patterns were more exciting than political campaigns !

I'm old enough to remember waking up to the test patterns after passing out on the couch :p

"Or will Irish Mike have to go back to the soul-crushing life of a welder?" -from the article

That's funny. :D

He'll probably will follow in the footsteps of Boyd Coddington and Jessie James who were making a profit then had to file bankruptcy after the networks got done with them. They were nothing but commodities consumed in their use and discarded.

Haha. I found his Youtube page.

I'm inspired. I think i'm going to install a big block V8 in my wheel barrow. Maybe get a show too.

What is the breathing apparatus thing for?

It's just a respirator. Karl Andersen uses the same one...but Karl didn't paint his up to make it look like it's 100 years old (instead of shiny yellow plastic ;)).

I love all the idiots on youtube yabbering about how he will be their weapon maker of choice after the apocalypse. I wonder how many zombies they can kill with a 56 pound sword that won't hold an edge??? ;) LMFAO! :D

Don't you dare try to bring common sense into a thread about big giant swords..Aint got no place here :D Also will that apocalypse be eastern standard time?

Red jacket firearms/sons of guns for the knife world?

Seriously though, when I talk with non-firearms people about guns one of the first things they say is: "How about that sons of guns show. They make badass stuff." I can't stand red jacket firearms, especially the pedophile owner. It characterizes gun owners as a bunch of dumb hillbillies. I hope this doesn't become the case with knives now. Urgh...

People see this shit on TV and their only connotation with the subject is an extreme representation of whatever the show is about. It's annoying and potentially deminishing in how it represents bladesmiths.

My Resp-o-rator is the best filter i've every had. If you need to talk with someone its so easy to just drop it out of your mouth and when you go back to grinding or sharpening just suck it up. LOL

I wish the guy well on this one but the swords look kinda lame to me? I don't play fantasy games, so maybe that's part of it?

I just assumed with facial hair like that it pretty much did all of the air filtration for you and you wouldn't need a respirator.

Kentucky- the second we start talking zombies means *ish just got REAL and we gotta be serious and rationale! ;) :D

phorizt- that is an excellent point. Fowler once said his nose hairs worked for his air filtration. ;)

Hillarious video Shane_o_ca! I love the part where the body builder swung the 54 pound sword and barely cut through the 1x4 :-)

So I watched the vid. Hmm.

"54 pounds of metal doesn't care how long you've been at the gym." :p

I know the whole goofy thing is easy to make fun of and may tick a lot of people off, but honestly... more power to this guy. I doubt there's much overlap between his client base and any of ours. From that short vid, he seems to have a sense of humor about what he's doing, so if he's making a living at it... *shrug*

Or maybe he's a total jackwagon. I couldn't be bothered to research him/his work any further than what's in this thread, so I really don't know. Or care... :D
