Recommendation? big hands lefty edc options?

Pm2 seems way too big at a glance. Have 2 okc rat 1’s and the length just bothers me. Considered grabbing a spiderco tenacious but may be too small. But i definitely want a sipderco in my collection. I’ve never even held one

If you have somewhere local that you can check them out, definitely hold a few Spydies. They often look odd (although I like their aesthetic), but have exceptional ergonomics.

FWIW as a non-lefty who wears size L gloves, the first knife I thought of when I saw your post was the Spyderco Military. It's so light and thin that it carries like a smaller knife (despite being quite large), and the handle offers a ton of comfortable, ergonomic real estate in just about any grip.

It also has my favorite choil of any Spydie I've owned: just big enough to allow you to really choke up for finer work, but not so large as to claim a lot of blade or handle. Makes it usable as a small-to-medium knife in a choked-up grip, which is handy. Worth a look!

As per usual I'd recommend the ZT 0566 s35vn sturdy looks like xm-18 (if you like that look) pretty good size but not too big and about $140 but not the best bang for the buck as some of the knives the other guys said guys

If the PM2 is too big for your taste, the Military is going to be way too big for you. Recommending a knife smaller than a RAT 1 that still will fit big hands is kind of a hard one. Two that come to mind are the Spyderco Caly 3 and the Caly 3.5 because the handle has more room than the spec sheet might lead you to believe.

I'm a lefty with big hands. First, I can work virtually any knife action, ambidextrous or not, left handed. With a little practice you can too. You don't have to limit your choices to a left handed knife.

Now, if you want a lefty friendly, either the Manix 2 or Manix 2 LW are great choices as is the Endura. Having owned both, the Endura would be my choice but you can't go wrong with either.

If you to spend a little more, a lefty Military would be another cool choice. PM me and I'll let you know who the vendor is.

I'm a lefty with medium-sized hands. Knives I really liked but have lost in the past year include a full-size Griptilian (bottom of river during tubing trip) and a ZT 0350 (no idea, but wonder if I left it on my desk at work and it was taken). I'd highly recommend either of those (there's a used ZT 0350 on AZCK for $125 now). A knife that I've had for a long time that's my beater, working-around-the-house knife is a CRKT M1- looks like these are available on Ebay for relatively cheap.

I love my Benchmades, but I've noticed that the clips tend to be loose enough that I have knives pulled out of my pocket by random things. I had one that I thought I'd lost even though I had a pretty narrow idea of where it was around my house. Ultimately, I found it months later hung in a cast net that's hanging in my garage. The net plucked it out of my pocket when I was moving stuff around. The downside of stronger clips is the wear on the pants, though. Right now, I'm leaning toward stronger clips (like the ZT and the CRKT).

Like them or not, it's awfully nice of Spyderco to make some dedicated left-hand folders :

Spyderco make some superb knives, no doubt. But as I recall, all Axis lock knives have a lefty clip option. :thumbsup:Interestingly, Victorinox liner locks, on some of the larger SAK’s, have a quirky design that caters to lefties. :)

Well, you don't say how much "a bit over $100" really means to you - the Manix 2 XL new is going to exceed by at least 20-25%.

I am a lefty, big hands. I have plenty of choices for a standard carry blade. Whenever I put my Manix 2 XL back in the active rotation, I have a smile on my face. It's really a great "package" for me. One suggestion to butcher your budget even more: I will swear to you that putting a mirror edge on the knife, combined with the Spyderco DLC coating, enables the knife to zip through cardboard, paracord, paper, etc. with near zero effort. I notice a huge difference especially from the DLC coating.

If you are patient, and watch the exchange, you can find a Manix 2 XL DLC in excellent condition for $100. Might take you a bit, but doable.

Good luck!

Yeah, of course there are lots of fully ambi options as well, Axis locks, back locks, cbbl, etc... with repositionable clips. I just really appreciate the extra effort in serving a niche market with the left hand compression and liner locks.

Go for the Kizer Megatherium, it is a monster of a lefty bolster lock (basically frame lock) flipper!

ok, so i have big hands and am looking for something slim, also left handed. i work at a brewery and am always cutting grain bags and packages open. i have few knives but haven't found the perfect one yet. i have a blur, which kind of sucks because i had to take off the clip and just pocket carry it. also have a westin, which i like because it goes lefty and is deep carry and slim. the blur and westin do fit my hands, almost perfect, but i find myself wanting something a bit higher quality in terms of steel. but other knives like the cryo are too short. probably willing to spend a bit over $100. suggestions? also i cant really stand the look of the para military 2.
My friend also a lefty drilled and tapped his blur for left handed carry it worked great.

Count me as another vote for a Manix 2.

I'm a southpaw as well, and not a big fan of lockbacks. Additionally, I have fairly large hands. The Manix fits my hand perfectly, and while a bit wide in the pocket, its also very slim.

Like an axis lock, the ball bearing lock is easily worked with either hand. And the clip can be set for either side.

I will admit though, that I still carry it in my right pocket. Always have, since when I started carrying 30 years ago, nothing allowed for left hand carry. Now it feels uncomfortable to put a knife in the left pocket.

I’m a lefty too, I wear a lrg Mechanix glove, they fit tight. The xl are just a touch big for dexterity but are perfect as a normal glove if that helps for comparison. I find the para 2 a little cramped until I sand the edges so they are rounded a bit, then it feels comfortable. I too wasn’t feeling the look at first but once you give it a chance you actually end up liking it!
-Manix is super but large in pocket
-Benchmade are great if you get a good one but you can expect blade play on most if you want free dropping action
-look at Spyderco Gayle Bradley if you can stretch your budget, or a Domino if you can find one
-Spyderco stretch in budget, good in large hands, awesome work knife
-steel will cutjack

Sir For your profession I suggest a case sodbuster or a opinel no 8. They are both slim, classy, and under 25$. Even if you do choose to get another recommendation from this forum pick up a good traditional to accompany it. Seriously though, what else can you buy for 12-25$ these days!

Lefty here!
I would reconsider the Para Military. That blade is a real slicer. Second choice, the Gayle Bradley.

The endura is a good recommendation and you have sprint runs to choose from. Not sure if they’re in your budget but a lefty military would be right up your alley. Everyone should try one. WAY better knife than the para2 IMO.

Edited to add: Try getting past the look of the sydies. Most eyeballs hate them but most hands love them.

Thread was posted 3/20/18. OP has probably made up his mind by now.

OP - if you're still around, post up what you decided on.

I like seeing recommendation threads end with the person who asks actually buying a knife. That seems to rarely happen, but it's nice when it does.

Try an endura. Heck of a knife regardless os the $. The fact that is afordable in relitive terms is a big bonus.
