IIRC , the 79 just has a corkscrew rather than a phillips head driver like on the 78 .

That is the only noticeable difference. I'd rather have the corkscrew. You have a no.2 phillips on the tip of the can opener and it's not too often I encounter a deep set phillips in a place where I don't have a screwdriver handy so I don't need a longer phillips bit on my knife. The corkscrew can be used as a marlin spike if need be and it's really good with wine bottles.

The trapezoidal opening hole is a bit weird and makes zero ergonomic sense, and some of the tools have ridiculously weak backsprings. It's a sizeable brick of a thing, too.
It's not a catastrophe, and it does have a coolness factor to it, but the Victorinox 111mm 08 Soldier/Trekker/Trailmaster is far superior.

Actually works pretty good . Only problem is with clearance to use the saw .
