I confirmed a trade with "2 shot" (Bob) last night, which was based on his post to trade a BM MPR:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=789122

He backed out tonight by email, stating that he doesn't really want to trade or sell the knife (a violation of Forum Rules section 3(1)(5)). No big deal, but I saw that he was logged onto the Forum at the time of his email, so I sent him a reply email asking him to close or update his thread to indicate such. He logged off immediately, from the Forum and email, and I have not heard from him since.

Could merely be some combination of incompetence and coincidence, but I wanted to give a heads-up.

He backed out tonight by email, stating that he doesn't really want to trade or sell the knife (a violation of Forum Rules section 3(1)(4)). No big deal, but I saw that he was logged onto the Forum at the time of his email, so I sent him a reply email asking him to close or update his thread to indicate such. He logged off immediately, from the Forum and email, and I have not heard from him since.

Are you referencing "Do not post items for sale or trade if you do not have them in your physical possession."?

I thought the seller just didn't want to sell or trade it.

Edit: Okay I see what you were looking at now on Section 3(1)(5) "Do not list items for sale unless you are 100% sure that you want to sell them - no "testing the waters" to gauge buyer interest."

First of all, except under extraordinary circumstances, I don't think we need to know about every deal that did NOT happen. No money changed hands, no deal yet: no harm, no foul.

But we do have an updated rule:

SECTION 2 - Rules for Selling / Trading / Offering Services:
Use common sense - Be 100% sure you are ready to go before you do anything. This means:

2.1. Sellers - Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item and are satisfied with the selling price

Stuff happens. Try not to let events get out of hand too often, just like buyers shouldn't say 'I'll take it' immediately followed by 'Oops! no money left this month ...' But do we need to report every glitch?

Soooooooo, a guy can't just change his mind?

Sure he can -- if he ever made his mind up to begin with. That's the point -- don't confirm a deal for an item if you haven't made up your mind that you want to part with that item. "Testing the Waters" is not allowed.

Sorry, typo, I meant 3(1)(5). The Rules state that you are not to post stuff that your are not 100% sure you want to sell. He indiated to me in his email that he was never 100% that he wanted to part with the knife he listed.

Do with this information as you wish. It's just information.
