Thanks for the welcome back. I won't be spending the time here that I used to, but I will be catching up on how my favorite makers are doing and making a few comments every once in awhile.

You're alive, or has someone stolen your identity?

Good to see ya back Keith!

Nice lookin knife, Nick!

Thank you guys! :)

I truly appreciate everyone taking the time to comment. :) I'm blown away to see Keith post! Nice to see you back Keith! :D

I'm really not sure what prompted me to shape the guard the way I did, but I'm happy with how the shapes came out in conjunction with the damascus. Putting those four little facets on the handle side of the guard lugs turned out to be a lot harder to pull off than I expected. Well, grinding/filing them in was easy- it was the subsequent finishing that wasn't so easy.

Thank you so much guys!!! :)

Fine Bowie in every respect in my opinion, however the damascus guard and spacer really pull it all together.

medium800.jpg

Yes- pulls it together and sets it apart.

Oh BTW- I just noticed in one of the close-up shots. *edited* the pic right above this post! LOL....

It looks like there is a line/facet in the plunge cut. There IS NOT actually a line there. Mike Q and I have talked about this before--- because it's surprising how often you see a superbly executed knife.... that has funky spots in the plunges. But there are no funky spots in this one.... :D

Thanks! :)

Fantastic work.

The hamon looks subtle.

I love the damascus guard.

Work on details is just amazing.

I definitely should stop looking at your knives!!! ;)

Sweet elegant evolution of the Bowie... brought to you by Nick Wheeler :D

Great looking knife Nick. I represents SO MUCH time and effort in conjunction with natural talent.

You know it has to be special in order to bring Keith back from whatever rock he has been hibernating under.

Robert

Another Beautiful Knife Nick!
It is nice to see that you take the time to get everything just right.
The video helped to get a better idea what the knife would be like in person.
Thank You for posting the photos and video.

OMG - Keith! Great to see you here again man.

Nick - sweet bowie. I'm with Coop on the guard - just outstanding - caught my eye and kept it a good long while.

I immediately smell Hancock in that spacer, and I love that kind of styling. Really nice!

Sweet knife Nick! I don't know how you get anything that crispy clean with all that dog hair and slobber all over you :)

Adam

Mr Wheeler, When I get on the forum here and see another thread of yours I just know I'm going to luv it. Great lines, fantastic hamon, damascus fittings phfwar. I just run out of superlatives. One day I would like to see one first hand.
Cheers Keith

Well you guys sure know how to make a guy's day!!! :) THANK YOU!!!

To have both big league collector/friends, as well as big league knife maker/friends posting here has truly lifted my spirits!!!

Mike Ruth Jr.--- you passed me up a long time ago, but I really appreciate and respect that you try not to rub it in my face. :foot: :D

Dave- I will sure miss seeing you guys too!!! Having dinner with you, Mike Q, Mike&Marcy V, and Angi last year at Paesanos was easily one of my favorite moments from the week-end!!! :D

Brian- just holler at me, my wait time is actually a lot shorter than it used to be. ;) :p Seriously though, it would be nice to get you and Greg back up here soon. I get tired of just talking to the dogs during the day. Okay, I don't get tired of it, but having someone who can actually talk back would be a nice change of pace ;)

Robert- you are far too kind to me my friend... but I sure appreciate it!

Adam- my saving grace is the boys do not drool much at all. We really lucked out in that department!!! Now the dog HAIR on the other hand... Yes... even though Angi and I both very actively clean our home... we have found puppy hair in the butter dish, the freezer, and even in the back of the underwear drawer. :o LMAO! It's only funny because it's true.

Jon--- that is an influence that I most certainly have drawn a lot of inspiration from. The whole reason I ever started doing any embellishment like this spacer's line cuts and fluting, was seeing knives with similar treatments from Jim Schmidt and Tim Hancock! :) I'm very proud that you would make a connection from my work to Tim's!!!

Mark--- for the record.... You ARE my friend!!! And my wood pimp!!! :D

Roger, Kevin, Coop--- thank you guys for taking note of the fittings. :) I spent as much time on them as I did the rest of the knife combined.

Keith--- if you are ever on the other side of the globe, just holler at me. Just getting to hear an Australian accent all day would be worth a day of shop time. :)

Thanks guys!!! :)

BTW- there is another W2 blade in the shop that was done with no clay, and it is more wild and crazy than anything I have ever gotten WITH clay. Hopefully it will be ready to share here much sooner than later!
