Bigger Men, Bigger Blades?

I am 6'8" tall, 265 pounds. I like big knives ok, as long as I can leave them in the truck! If I am going to carry it on my person, the largest I will even consider wearing is my Busse Zero Tolerance Steel Heart, which is 3/16" thick. I have a lot of Busses, but for use I gravitate to the shorter, thinner models.

I do like larger, but not outlandishly so, folders. My daily carrys are usually a Swamp Rat Rat Trap or a LionSteel SR 1. These blades are both just a small bit shorter than 4" and are just about perfect. I also like to carry the Al Mar Nomad, however, and a CRK Mnandi, both smaller knives.

In my observations, it is the smaller guys who tend to gravitate to the huge knives and the magnum rifle calibers. There isn't a Whitetail on earth my 6.5x55 Swede won't deck.

Just remember, "No generalization is ever completely true, not even this one."

I'm 6' 190lbs and tend to go with the bigger knives, but i love little knives like the Kershaw chive as well, just don't own one. I have a buddy i work with that's going to get a bigger knife cuz he likes the ones i've been bringing.

I'm 6'5" and while I do like larger knives I always supplement them with a relatively small knife. Like my 9" kabar Bowie and a CS mini pendelton.

I'm 5'6" on a good day and find blades around 3" to be comfortable yet effective for an EDC/pocketknife. Folders with blades up to and over 4" become a little awkward for me to use and carry, besides which I haven't yet found a task which requires a 4" folder. My EDC has been the Bradley Alias II and it's perfectly in proportion to the size of my hand and body, small yet sturdy.

I'm 5'9" and 150 lbs. and I carry a broad range of knife sizes. My small hands make some handles ungainly for me, but I have uses for small and large blades alike.

I dont carry a lot of what I consider big knives but I can comfortably if I want..Im 6'8"-306 pounds (well probably closer to 6'7" now that most of my disks are deflated:grumpy:)...Thats not what effects my knife size carry so much as it is my hands..I have big, thick blacksmith/farmers hands..I have a size 15 wedding band thats been too small for a long time..A samll knife is just uncomfortable for me to open/use..I had to get rid of a mini-grip because I couldent open it with one hand it was so small to me.
One thing though, knives like the zt300 series arnt big to me..I carry them without noticing them at all..Usually my carry knives have about a 3 1/2"-4" blade..

I'm 6'0 and 200lbs. I don't consider myself all that big (especially compared to some of you others...seriously what do you eat??) On my own time I prefer slightly larger blades like the Millie, AFCK, or 710 but since I work corporate what determines my blade size is how it rides in a business dress code.

I'm 6'2", 185lbs and i prefer handles at least 4". So, that usually translates to 3"+ blades. Unless we are talking about traditionals, then size is no matter.

5' 6" and 175lbs. most of my knives are 3 1/4" blade but I do carry a Military and it feels pretty good in my med./small hand. If you own one you also know despite it's size it carries easy! I do prefer 3 1/4" and 3 1/2" knives on clip it style, and I like my slip joints from 3 1/2" to 4 1/4" closed.

I base my knife selection on what tasks will be needed to be accomplished so the size & length will always be changing. With that said, a rule of thumb for a general outdoors knife would be for the blade to be the width of your palm. It isn't that difficult.

Well, I'm told I can go bear huntin' with a stick (6"7" @ 430lbs.) I prefer my Spyderco Woodlander, or Barry Posner 6" hunter.

6'2" 340#, Im not sure if big frame and big knives go together but i like'em bigger than most of my friends. My friends always know if they ask me for a knife its gonna be a handful of steel. I usually edc a ZT 0200 for a folder, and i aint hittin the woods without my, RTAK II and either ESEE6, Fletcher BOXL or Fiddleback Woodsman. I have a 12" chette coming from Fiddleback Forge and once it gets here, then its ridin the belt. So maybe BIG & BIG do go together.
I like'em Bigger, like my Women :thumbup::thumbup::D

i just carry what i feel like carrying. never considered a correlation between height/weight and knife size.

I need "larger" knives for the kind of jobs I need them to do. The other day I needed to trim out a window frame just a touch to get a window to fit. All I had on me at the time was a small necker with about a 2.5" blade. The handle and the blade were too small for the job, and it could have been dangerous. I had to be very careful.

Today I had to cut pieces of Tyvek into squares. A smaller knife with a shorter blade would have made this job harder to do, but the 4" folder I had on me was just right.

Little knives for little jobs. I rarely "need" a small knife.

5'9" 185# lean weight. I like to carry the biggest knife I can that is legal where I am. If the main knife is a large fixed blade like my Spyderco Hossom Forester then I also carry a regular sized fixed blade like a Endura. I also usually carry a Ladybug as well for very discrete tasks and to lend if someone asks for a knife.
I always figure that a big knife can do anything a small knife can do, only better and faster. Exceptions being very delicate work.

I've never made a connection between my physical size and my knives. When. I was younger I carried a benchmade auto-resistor. Don't see the point anymore and just carry a Sage II. And an M&P compact. :D
