Biggest custom bowie knife

Made this one last year. 11" blade 17oal. Can't remember the width but it was more than 2" thinking 2.5" or 2.75"...

Here's my biggest so far. 12" blade.

Man that's a large blade! 👍 John N.Cooper 37inch bowie must look like pocket knife next to this:)

now asides from some nice blades in this thread i am wondering about the use of these. i am not talking about the novelty items but the larger bowies you see in here... are they to be used like a machete? just showpieces? to my understanding the original bowie was sort of a fighting knife and also fairly large.

my largest. 13 3/4" blade. CAS sobral is the maker.

'Original' Bowie knives in the relatively short period in the 1800s when knife fighting/duels were most prevalent came in different sizes - some were on the large side. Think large kitchen knives:)

Several of the blades here in this thread would not have been out of character at all.

Here's a custom bowie type of knife made by Joe Foster -- copy/paste of the post I made;

I sent a sketch of a design I wanted to Joe Foster, and after he fixed it up, we agreed on the final design. I am extremely pleased with the result! The specs are;

Steel: 5160 Carbon Steel
Weight:.9253kg
Total Length: 17-7/8''
Blade length: Slightly over 12"
Thickness: .365"
Width: Slightly less than 4" at widest point.

Joe was amazing to deal with, from ordering to shipping. Constantly keeping me in the loop, sending me work in progress pictures, etc. As I said, I'm really pleased with the results!
