Biggest heartbreak on lost knife?

I find I am generally good at not losing my stuff, especially knives. I lost a benchmade 940 a couple years ago that I keep waiting to fall out of a camping pack or pair of pants and it still bums me out that I can't find it. It was a gift from a good friend and I never thought I would like the 940 but once you own one you realize why its awesome.

Whats the biggest heartbreak on a lost knife you've had?

(I searched for this topic and didn't see it, though I'm sure this has been discussed before)

I owned an early production Buck 112 Ranger. It was stolen out of my car by an auto mechanic.

Out of all the knives I have bought, sold, traded, or lost, this is the one I miss the most. I carried it when hunting with my father. He passed in the late ‘70s and the knife disappeared in the early ‘80s.

It really isn’t about the knife. It’s more about the memories and sentimental value.

Sometime in the early 90's I lost a gray Kershaw DWO. I've never replaced it, because every time I've looked around to see if anyone is selling one, they are either black or orange. Not an expensive knife, but I liked it a lot (I wonder if I still would?). Maybe someday I'll find another gray one.

100% agree, the monetary value stings, but the sentimental value burns and lingers.

I've gifted knives before that I thought I would always be able to replace, then find out they've been discontinued. A Spyderco UKPK in orange g10 comes to mind. Luckily it was to the same friend who gave me the 940.

Good luck on your search for another gray DWO! Ill keep my eyes out

Yep.

I quickly replaced the 112 but, it is just not the same. Even now, I pull out the replacement and it is nothing but a constant reminder.

I should pass it on to someone else or maybe send it into Buck and have it reworked into a slightly different knife. Maybe change to a drop point blade in S30v. That and black Micarta scales. :)

An OG Cold Steel Recon Tanto in Carbon V with the leather sheath. I'd saved up for it for ages. It was stolen out of a friends car. His car stereo was stolen as well.
Less sentimental, but still stung, was forgetting a Blur in a daysack when going through an airport - instant confiscation and I was lucky they took it as a genuine mistake on my part.

Somebody stole a pair of Spydercos out of my car a couple of years ago, an original Massad Ayoob and Jot Singh Khalsa. Car was parked in my driveway. After that I felt like my nice new neighborhood was now a crappy, lock your car at night neighborhood. Funny enough, I was in court for a ticket a couple weeks later and they brought out a guy who was charged with going into peoples cars and stealing from them. I wanted to follow him out of the courtroom and demand my knives back!

Oh man....depressing...

When I was a kid, dad used to travel for business.
We lived in Pittsburgh Pa. and dad's territory included Buffalo New York.
Dad brought me a small Imperial knife with pearl white scales.
I called it my "Buffalo knife".

It disappeared one day. I'm pretty sure I did something stupid with it & my parents just hid it from me.
No matter how many knives I get during my life & no matter how expensive they are.

My "Buffalo Knife" will always be my favorite & it will always be priceless.

I also had a whole slew of fixed blade knives I picked up as a kid that disappeared over the years. :(

I'm the type that rarely looses anything... heck, I usually have a cheap BIC pen until it runs out of ink.

The very first knife I bought when I was a kid was a Case camper somewhere around 1974. I lost it that winter and found it in the spring. I fixed it up the best I could and kept it. Several years ago, i found it in one of my old tool boxes. I recently decided to pull it out and see what I can do as far as restoring it, but I can't find it now!

When I was a teenager, an uncle gave me a sweet little Western fixed blade he won in a raffle. Many years later I was carrying it deer hunting and the sheath tore open and I lost it. I made several attempts to find it but couldn't.

I had a Benchmade deja Vu that was a gift from my girlfriend, lost it one day after using it to cut some cheese on lunch... I strongly suspect it was pilfered by one of my co-workers who at the time was deep in the throes of an addiction issue. However I have no proof of that, so I'm going with it getting thrown in the back of a bucket truck with a bunch of rakings.

I had the same thing happen with a Mini-grip. It was the first (of many) wife (GF at the time) gave me. It was the yellow handled one with the sheepsfoot 154cm. We replaced it and i still have it but it doesn't feel the same.
