Biggest knife... What's your personal limit?

Assuming their is no limits neither legal nor social, I think 4" will be my limit for folders.

Most of my blades are betwen 2.7" and 3.7" and I don't really think I need more from a folder.
For me something with ~3" to 3.5" of blade is really what I need for my EDC tasks
For fixed blade... I don't realy see the point of a limit as it will really depend on the use you have for it.

I am the kind of guy who prefers to carry light so the question for me is more about "How small can I go" :)

A 4" blade does everything I need to do on a day to day basis. If I needed something bigger and it was legal, I would have no problem selecting the most appropriate tool for the job. Self defense is about the last thing I would ever use a knife for though. So I don't need a 12" super tactical killing machine. Lol it's also more likely if I did find a need to defend myself, the attacker would be a brown bear and not a person. At that point I'm not sure any knife is really gonna do much other than make the bear angry as it mauls me.

A 4" folder is about what I carry also and around a 7 to 10" bladed sheath knife while out in the wild. Oh! I read an article in outdoor life years ago where a guy was being mauled by a grizzly while bow hunting and all the guy could get to was a arrow he kept stabbing the bear in the neck with it. Well the bear let go of him wandered off and died not far from the guy he mauled. So a big knife would possibly work in a situation like that maybe. I'm not going to try it so who's first.:DThat's a sweet TG you got there CM any plans for it?

A 3-3.5 inch folder for around. A 4.5-5 inch puukko for hiking and backpacking. Never found the need for anything bigger.

I only carry folders, the biggest i have is the 0452. Which would also be arounf that 10cm upper limit. For work my limit is at 8.5-9cm.

The KC Gray I just bought and sent back to him a couple days ago is as big of a folder as I want to go and it's 4.1"

If I could I'd rather carry a small hand hatchet ala a Gransfors Bruks type. But here in California, a no go. I alternate between a Joe Watson CT and a Strider SLCC and an SnG daily.

I carry folders, and the largest I regularly carry is are the ZT 0454 and CKF Milk (both a little over 4"). Somewhere in the vicinity of 3.5" is my pocket knife happy place, generally. I don't carry for defense purposes, though--I carry a firearm for that side of the house.

Not counting yard work or camping, where larger (fixed) blades come into play, normal edc under casual conditions, my max is 4" folders and 6" fixed blades.

Whenever I'm in a place where the law allows it, I don't mind a 5 inch blade on an EDC folder. This AG Russell piece rides nicely on my belt:

If I'm in the woods carrying a fixed blade, 10 to 12 inches would probably be maximum.

I have a brand new Protech TR4 on the way. It's a bit bigger and heavier than my Military. So this will be my biggest edc to date. And my first automatic.

Correction : the TR4 is not quite as big as the Military. But I sold my TR4 anyway. So the Military remains my biggest carry. Speaking of the Military , I've been thinking of picking up a new one.

I'm currently becoming more and more interested in carrying smallish fixed blades.

I have a Bradford Guardian 3.5 on the way. And I've been eye-balling others like the CRK Nyala.

So my Military S90V/CF/Ti remains my biggest folder EDC. But with my interest in fixed blades growing by the minute , a larger knife may be on my belt soon as an EDC. Just may take some getting used to.
