Biggest, Strongest Folder for $150?

Well, you have the sog line( pentagon -ones with the fake axis-I think), the rukus, a few cs knives. The military can be considered big too, I guess. And maybe a skirmish.

Spyderco Manix and Benchmade Skirmish. I'd give a slight edge to the Skirmish on being the strongest, but only because it's a titanium handled framelock like the Sebenzas.

BM710 and other AXIS models. BM claims it to be the strongest lock they produce, stronger than the frame locks on their Skirmishes, stronger than the liner locks, etc.

The SERE 2000 is a tank of a knife, but it's a liner lock and if you inspect the liner you will see it's skeletonized and thinned out where it bends, so there isn't a lot of material holding the locking liner to the rest of the liner.

if balis arent your thing, then i'd suggest the buck/strider 880. If you handle one you'll realize just how tough one of these things are.

You can find the Cuda Maxx for around $130-$150. Ti Handles and a D2 blade. Love mine.

Camillus are going out of business. I wouldn't buy their products with the prospect of no future support.

a kabar mule is pretty damn sturdy if thats what you define tough as. Read many a good things about the swamprat rat trap folder but I have never used or held one but swamp rats are known to be very tough.

But on an other side, if you want one it's now or never.

You can even buy one on BF if you're lucky.

Aside from the MicroTech LCC, I would definitely recommend the Camillus CUDA MAXX 5.5. I have one with the Bowie style blade that I prefer and it is as solid a knife as you will ever find or need. And, at 5.5" in blade length, it is about as big as a pocket knife can possibly get. The interesting thing is that the titanium frame/scales make for a relatively slim a nd light carry in your pocket, given that large size.

I will also second those who recommend the Chinook. The current versions have a saber grind to them and I have found that it is a stronger blade than the flat grind on the Manix/Military. But that is my own conclusion, yours may vary.

I would just like to point out that this thread is from 2003. That being said, I'd go for the Manix.

I agree with FullerH and all the above posters that the Cuda Maxx Bowie is a rock solid folder.

The current version version of the Chinook 2, however, is flat ground like the Manix, so blade strength in both knives is pretty even. The flat ground Chinook 2 has a stronger tip, though.

The older version of the Chinook 2 featured a hollow grind.

Biggest knife or longest blade? There is a difference.

I'd say my Spyderco Manix is a "big" knife and it surely is stong. It is it in my top 5 favorite production knives made. So I say Manix.

Camillus isn't exactly going out of business. If I understood what I heard correctly, it is being reorged. Many of the execs. are gone and the bank has consultants running for short term until new owner is found or they decide to liquidate. Word is, there is an interested party to be new owner. We will see.

On topic- My two favorite knives, CUDA Maxx and Spyderco Chinook 2 flat grind.
