March 28th of last year Bill Martino died. As the first anniversary of his death approaches I would like to give interested forumites the opportunity to read some of his poetry. The book is a small one, just 55 pages. I mention it in this thread on Songs of the Sand Country. This book is very hard to come by, but I have two copies. Well, one now.

Here are the ground rules.

  • If you want to participate, sign up on this thread. You’ll need to have an e-mail address available in your profile or in your post in order for others to contact you for mailing information. If you’re outside the US please wait for a week from the time of this post before posting to this thread. That will enable most of the interested US participants to sign up first, and keep to a minimum the number of people in line waiting for the book because of delays in international mail.
  • Keep the book no longer than 7 days after you receive it. When you are done, mail it off via priority mail to the next participant. You will have to contact the next person in the list to get the address.
  • The book will come to you in a ziplock with some cardboard protection to keep it from bending. Please send it off again in the same way.
  • If you found something of value in the book, please consider making a contribution to Ram’s tuition fund. Information on how to do that is available at http://www.vortex.dreamhosters.com/phpbb/index.php .
  • Please post your reviews or reactions to the book in Songs of the Sand Country, not in this thread. Let’s keep this thread uncluttered so folks can figure out where they’re sending the book next.
  • If you’re the last person on the list and have no one to send the book to send it to Steve Ferguson. He will then be able to dispose of it as he wishes in his fund-raising activities for Ram.
I’m going to give Yvsa and Steve Ferguson the first shots at reading it, if they’re interested. After that we start working through the forumites signed up in this thread, in order.

Namaste.

I'm in Howard...and Thank You.

Um...I'm easy to get in touch with.

Yes please, count me in.

Thanks Howard, I was interested in it after you posted the original thread. Great opportunity for us all to get to know him a little better, and in a different way.

The book is all packaged up to go out in tomorrow's mail. Yvsa took a pass, so I'm sending it to Steve. After that it will be working its way down the thread.

This is going to be a well traveled little book.

Should each person put a small signature (screen name) in the cover? I think it would increase it's value upon the raffle...

Up to you guys. I've already packed it and put the postage on so I'm not going to unwrap it to sign it. If you guys would like to that's fine.

Howard, I'd like a shot at it after Dick.

I actually have had a search out for this book with a guy who has hunted down stuff for me before. No luck so far, but if I do manage to snag a copy I'll let someone else move up.

Thanks,

Norm

Thank you, Howard, for your generousity. I would like to have an opportunity to read some of UB's writing. Please sign me up.

I'd like to read it. I didn't know Bill when he was alive though. If you guys think I shouldn't, or if you want to put me at the bottom of the list I'll understand.

I wouldn't mind reading it but I'd be scared of damaging it with a coffee ring or something.

If the book could be used up, with coffee rings, cigar ashes, and many thumbprints, I think it will have served its purpose more than if it spent its years clean in a cellophane wrapper.

He he he ... You're already at the bottom of the list because you waited so long to post. Soon there will be others below you though. The only qualification to sign up is that you have an interest and would like to read it.
