Bill's Poetry Book Pass-Around

Bamboo, I thought Nasty had a good idea about folks signing it. At least as long as they do it discreetly. Adds a neat touch. However I respect your reasons for not doing so, but hope folks don't mind if I make a small notation of just my name with the date read inside.

Norm

No worries, Norm. I can appreciate the idea as well. For me it just didn't seem right. But if I'd opened the book and saw your name, or anyone else's discreetly written in, I wouldn't have minded a bit.

I think raghorn is next on the list - I just sent him an email, and will put the book in the mail as soon as I have his address. I've added a card that Uncle Bill sent me when I was hospitalized several years ago. Sorry I took so long to get the book back in circulation:o .
Berk

[EDIT]6/13/06 - the book is in the mail to raghorn.

I very much enjoyed this little book, as well as the beautiful container it came in. Uncle Bill had quite a streak of Kipling in him. :)

On the way to SogGuy in the morning, enjoy!

Norm, Should have it in the mail to you this weekend or before.

Howard, I'd like a shot at it after Dick.

I actually have had a search out for this book with a guy who has hunted down stuff for me before. No luck so far, but if I do manage to snag a copy I'll let someone else move up.

Thanks,

Norm

Well, I got the book today and just tore through it. No one mentioned it, unless I missed it, but it is in a beautiful little box that Bamboo made.

No one is signing it, out of respect for the book I guess, and I don't want to be the first, even though I thought Nasty had a great idea when he suggested we do so. Berkley included a nice pic though, so I don't know if I can but I'll try to find something to add to it, to kind of say "Norm was here!" anyway. :D

I make the next person on the list to be DKP, so I have written to him requesting his snail mail address and will get it sent on to him once I get that.

Also, Dick (Sogguy) kindly scanned the book and made me a copy of the book in .PDF format and put it on CD. I would like to echo his offer to send a copy to anyone who would like one. If the next person did the same pretty soon we could get a bunch out there for those who would like to read it. (Yangdu must already have a hard copy, right?) Technically I guess there are copyright issues with this, but for such a small publication and small community of readers, for a far out of print volume I don't think it's an issue at all.

I will at least ask DKP it he would like a copy.

Thanks Howard for this opportunity. I enjoyed the little book very much.

Norm

Hey DKP? I sent an email thru the system here the other day, but no response as yet. (Hey, whatever happened to being able to get someones email addy by clicking on their name? I use to be able to collect a bunch and do group emails, but now it just goes through the servers here.)

You don't have PM's enabled. When you see this next please email or PM me and let me know your snail mail and I'll get this off to you.

I'll keep this at the top for a while, don't think anyones in too much of a rush, but will check with Howard as to how long to wait, OK? ;)

Thanks,

Norm

I gave some initial guidelines but it's floating in the universe now, on Bill's and our karma. Use your own best judgement.

I have 9 copies ready to send to anyone that would like one, email me with an address.
Yangdu if you would like a copy let me know.

Dick

Dick,
The CD of Uncle Bill's book just arrived, and it is great - the .pdf format lets me zoom in on the rather small print of the original, a great help for my baby boomer eyesight:cool: Many thanks for the time, effort and expense you put into making the CD. As Uncle would have said, "you're one of the good guys"!

This is great! Thanks Dick. Kevin the grey asked for a copy, but I spoke to him and he agreed to wait until I get a copy of the Dreamer CD that Dick also is kindly sending. I was going to combine the two onto one CD and will send it on to him in Canada.

I'm going to do another call for DKP, and will post a new thread on this for him.

Thanks,

Norm

OK, got hold of DKP (Don) and am sending it off to him soon. It looks like Gyr is next on the list followed by Tohatchi. Gyr has just posted 2X since March, so I'll leave it to DKP to track him down and see if he is still interested.

FYI, here is the flow from me to the rest of the folks I came up with based on this thread:

Svashtar
DKP
gyr
Tohatchi NM
Bruise
Andy
Astrodada
ArchAngel
Kevin the grey
Voodoo
Vampire Hunter

If this is incorrect please let me know and I will edit it ASAP.

Dick is very considerately sending me "The Dreamer" on CD as well. If I get that soon I'll combine it with the other CD and send it on to Don, so it can go down the line. If not, just the "Sands" CD to not hold things up. Howard suggested mentioning to people that they can either copy the CD themselves and send it on to the next guy, or just copy the .pdf file to their system, which is even easier. It's only 12K.

Also, I hate to be the first, but this is passing through all these folks hands and it would be nice to document that. Berk added a neat card and of course Bamboo made this beautiful box it's in. I'm going to go with Nasty's original suggestion and make a careful and neat inscription inside. Howard thought that was OK as well. Just my screen name / street name and date read. Hope that is OK with everyone.

Regarding the CDs and copyright, if Bill retained copyright we should be in the clear if we have Yangdu's OK. I'm not a lawyer, but I'll try and do some sleuthing.

Edited to add:

Apparently, Adams Press is still in business: http://www.adamspress.com/

On their home page, they state that they do not retain copyright:
"Adams Press helps authors self-publish their books economically and professionally. We do not retain the copyright for any authors' books nor do we make any representations other than our commitment to produce and deliver books in the quantity and to the standards that our customers specify."

We might even be able to ask for a reprinting - though I imagine current printing and binding might be a bit different from the 1970s issue.

Spiral,
The .pdf file is 11.9 Mb - if you want me to, I'll be happy to try. No idea how long it might take, or if my AOL dialup can handle the job.
Berk

That would be great Berk. Thankyou. Aol emails can take up to 16mb, Ive sent quite a few of those in the past, but I guess on dialup if the servers reset it will lose it. On broadband its fairly easy because it only takes 5mins so that doesnt seem to run fowl of the servers.
That how it seems to me anyway.{no indepth technical knowledge here!}

Spiral

Thanks Berkley, came through a treat!

I look forward to reading it tommorow.

1.5 minute download on this end. ;)

Anyone else want it emailed or emuled?
