Photos Bird and Trout! Let's See 'Em!

This 1985 dated western 628 just came in today and I really like it.

I knew the specs but conflicting opinions led me to believe it was a tiny little toy like thing, here are some size reference pictures.

Next to a GEC H20 and a much more diminutive Queen #85.

And a few common folders.

It's definitely a small knife but it's very EDC friendly and in my opinion it is not an overly tiny knife.
Well I for one know in my comments on it I said it borders on novelty, I may have overstated its tinyness:oops: Honestly for me a fixed blade under a 4 inch blade length is small,to the point I'd probably just use whatever pocketknife I'm carrying instead. I know some don't like to clean game with a folder, I grew up small game hunting and we always just used a pocketknife. My primary carry from ages 10 to 20 was a Victorinox camper, that thing cleaned scores of squirrels, frogs, and fish. My Dad always used a stockman or a Vic huntsman, the largest knife I seen my Dad use for hunting was a Parker Lil'Bandit. Anytime I try to get into carrying a sub 4 inch blade fixed blade I end up putting it away and just using a folder. Sorry if I caused any second thoughts, my own preferences jaded my opinion on what are in reality fine little knives.

Interesting comments, M.H. Something to ponder. I use and carry folding knives but only because of their concealability and portability. Whenever I have a choice I would always use a fixed blade knife, no matter the length of the blade and no matter the use. A folding knife in regard to any use around food is a dirty thing; it is simple physics/chemistry. Some aren't too hard to clean but most 'traditionals' would not qualify in that regard. One great thing about knives and knife people is that there is something for everyone.

This little GEC is my only bird and trout sized fixed blade.

I like it, and I’ve used it a bit around the house, but I’ve never actually carried it, and I can see David’s point. It’s hard for me to find any advantage in carrying this instead of a #71 Bull Nose, and it would certainly be less convenient to carry.

No second thoughts here as I like 'em small and would have been happy either way.
Your thoughts are valid too, I can perfectly understand wanting a folder over a belt knife of the same overall size.

For me they're just an EDC and while the one handed use is beneficial once in a while, in reality I don't use them any differently than my pocket knives.

I have to be honest that I use a folder more for more convenience. However, I do like small fixed blades, and I want to practice wearing one on a horizontal sheath drawing from the left side.

Man you don't know what you're missing.
Carry that H20 on your hip with a smaller folder in your pocket and see how it goes, the H20 is one of my all time favorites.

Just started making knives and my second ever is a B&T. Won’t do the liner again...it was a real challenge to blend in and make it look good. Also pins aren’t evenly spaced and I think I need to do my finishing blade sanding before attaching scales because I couldn’t get a good matching finish up by the scales. Advice and feedback is appreciated.
