Photos Bird and Trout! Let's See 'Em!

Just started making knives and my second ever is a B&T. Won’t do the liner again...it was a real challenge to blend in and make it look good. Also pins aren’t evenly spaced and I think I need to do my finishing blade sanding before attaching scales because I couldn’t get a good matching finish up by the scales. Advice and feedback is appreciated.

Is it beveled all the way to the spine? Hard to tell in the pic. Yeah finish the blade first then the handle. Could just be the pic but the back pin seems a little low too.

It is. I’m not ready for a plunge line. Tried that on my first knife and it didn’t turn out well so just blended the bevel into the tang. Blade is pretty thin... this is just stock removal so nothing complicated. 1/16” AEB-L. I have very limited equipment at this point so just tinkering really. Last night I reworked the blade as I wanted a smaller knife for trout fishing trips. I have yet to figure out how to link pictures to post with Imgur...always just puts the letters IMG on the post when I copy over.

I use Imgur on my iphone. I open the picture in Imgur, hold my finger on the picture and it brings up some options. I chose copy post link. Then on Blade Forums, at the top of your post you chose the little icon with the mountain in it and just paste into the line that pops up. Hopefully that helps, but it’s probably different if you’re using a different devise.

By the way, I like the addition of the sharpening choil or whatever that is called on the reworked blade.

I like the choil too. A file guide will help immensely with plunge lines. They are about $50 or so bucks depending. What would ya like to know about your knife?

Well I guess considering this is only the second knife I've made just tell it like it is. I take criticism well and just trying to make a decent knife in my spare time. I know I have a lot to improve on...especially the finishing touches and sharpening. Those proved to be the most challenging. My arms wanted to fall off from all the sanding....and I don't really know the hardness of the blade. Using propane forge with no thermocouple so I'm heating by color which for a rookie like me is probably a bad idea...

Friend gave me this 1950's KA-BAR small BSA sheath knife. Not really a B&T, blade too wide I think, but short enough to get the job done. Blade has lost about 20% of its steel based on pristine pictures I can find of this model knife on-line. OH

I have one Bird and Trout...

...and one Trout and Bird:

And a whole bunch of others lacking the name but performing the same!

Finally someone has the AG Russell Bird and Trout, have not seen it in a long time. Bigger than the Hunters Scapel, but smaller than the old Deer Hunter, which I have. Just cannot remember where I put it.

It's not an attractive knife and to be honest, I don't remember exactly why I bought it. I do know that it has breasted out enough ducks over the years to feed a small army. :-)

I think it had something to do with the A.G. Russell catalog being my first exposure to "good knives" back in the late 1980s.

Do you know the steel? My Deer Hunter is VG 10, at the time I think there was D2 or Aus 8 also.
