Birthday Knives - woohoo

LOL!! It doesn't stand a chance.

Sure doesn't bro. :D

I'm not sure if it's true or not but I heard(never read it myself) that the knife in the First blood book was actually a Randall 18.

Regardless of the authenticity of what I heard, I've really fulfilled some lifetime dreams of owning the Randall 18. I don't plan to stop with these two either, hopefully get both in no saw teeth versions and maybe even the mini version if one can be found.

ETA: Come to think of it I did read "First Blood", but it wasn't the full book, it was a condesned(readers digest style) version.

The literary Rambo ended up with a "hunting knife" that was in the bottom of a backpack that he pillaged. Actually, I'm glad Stallone didn't use an #18 or it would be forever known as "the Rambo knife". Ugh!

Thanks man. Asked one of my buddies and he told me the same thing. I think I need to read this book.

I think the biggest problem if the 18 were the Rambo knife then it would cost even more. Not to mention counterfeits.

Perhaps in the aftermarket, but Gary Randall seems to be a very straight forward business man and not out to take advantage of his customers. I don't think he or his father would have raised the price just because the knife was in the movie. By 1982, the Model 18 and its price was already long established compared to the Lile knife that was specifically made for the movie and priced accordingly. Had the #18 been used, no doubt the demand would have skyrocketed along with everyone's waiting time.

Yeah, secondary market is what I meant bud.

Could you imagine all the chinese knockoffs if it had been the Rambo knife. Come to think of it, I'm glad it wasn't, lol.

Yea, I’m glad the Model 18 has the distinct recognition of being known as the first hollow handle survival knife rather than an “impractical movie prop”. ;) :D

I wouldn't mind having one of those impractical movie props either :p

Funny story. On an unnamed forum I posted my 5.5" Randall 18. Someone PM'd me, called me a communist and told me to throw my chinese piece of **** in the garbage. haha Tripped me out. :D

ETA: The 18 has dominated this thread, and for good reason, it's a very intriguing knife. The Airman though, very basic and plain is one hell of a work horse. I like this little knife a lot. The Fingergrooved Randalls don't seem to be that popular, but they feel wonderful to me.

Machine, are you hangin' out on the "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" Forum again? What did I tell you about that? :D

I'm guessing if you sent that person your Randall, he wouldn't throw it in the garbage because it would be the most expensive item he owns. :D

Believe it or not, the person that said this has plenty of nice knives(well at least has pics of them). This person also posted negatively about my knife in the thread I posted the pic in. Another member set this fella straight, he PMd me again apologizing for it. So we're good, was very out of line but made me lol reading it.

If he knows knives, why would he call a Randall, "Chinese made"? Stupid comment. Although, I agree with him calling you a communist. It's pretty obvious that you think everyone would enjoy using a Model 18 if they just tried it. Guess that makes me a communist too. :D

You get the :cool:est birthday loot, Josh !

And Merry Christmas to all you Randall user/collector guys. :)
