Bishwakarma Puja Special for 9/14-- Pix, Knives and beautiful offerings

Thanks for the tips, I never thought of the heat. I am fine with the offset, but by the time I get it big enough for my finger, I think it will end up centered. I really don't want to make it any thinner than it is on the thin side. I am hoping to give it a go this weekend

That'll be two of us. The hole is a little small for my fat finger too. I'll be using a Dremel with a stone and sandpaper wheel.

If it were mine, I'd make it symmetrical. Make it the same margin all the way around but that's just me.
I know nothing about knife fighting and have little interest really but I have seen people put their little finger through that hole for different technique I guess.....
I'm leary to put any finger through as it seems like a good way to lose a finger to me.

Remember looking cool is job # 1 so make it nice and even. Heck it's a fun project, enjoy it.

What the heck are yall thinking? Go grab your Reti and carve some meat off your finger. If you get too much meat it will always grow back. Steel wont grow back! Uhhhh....if you have a good lawyer tell him Bawanna told ya that!

Hey all, I got the 9 1/4 inch 10 ounce Kerambit by Ram Lal Kami. Neem wood handle. in the mail this morning, I love the knife, but would like some opinions on making the finger hole a little bigger. My limited understanding of these is that the index finger goes through the hole. The hole is only big enough to go over my first knuckle, and I am pretty sure it is intended to go up farther (similar to how a ring sits). is it advisable to use a Dremel tool to ream this out, ar is there another way the would be better? My main goal is to be able to use the knife as it was designed, but I do not want to do something stupid to a work of art like this either.

If you look at the picture above the hole is slightly offset, in order to open it up to where I need it, I would have to ream it out so that the edge of the hole is approx even all the way around.

any thoughts would be appreciated!

1. Whether the pinky or index finger goes through the hole depends on whether you hold in in regular or reverse grip. Either way, I don't think you are supposed to put your finger all the way through the hole as you would wear a ring. Everything I've seen about kerambits is that you only put your finger down to the junction between the first two joints. That gives you maximum maneuverability with the blade. If you shove your finger all the way in you're kind of stuck there. Also, that position could be painful if you hit something hard with the blade, whether intentionally or accidentally.

2. As for reaming out the hole for esthetic reasons, I would certainly be tempted to do that. Whether you use a dremel or hand file (I prefer the latter), the most important thing is to clamp the knife securely so you can concentrate on your work and be safe.

Great advice.

Mine has a big hole but hole size dont matter. Hmm? I mean my hole dont need reaming out. I can get my finger in it just fine but ...Ughhh. This aint going well is it?

Anywhoo here is how I hold mine. I hold mine reverse slashing style and "balieve me" it can do some major damage when used in reverse grip. It just dont feel right in a forward position unless your doing some stick carving or something draw like. I think of it as an extension of a face punch. Just aim a bit low and left and done deal! Note the finger groove or cho! Fits perfectly behind my first pad. Got more leverage that way too.

Nope, it didn't go well at all. In fact, I think I'm brain damaged, couldn't handle the mental image.....:barf:

Hey! I didn't know you had an antler or bone handled kerambit! That's a beauty! I'm calling dibs on that one.

That thing sings, enjoy it immensely every time I see it.

Might be a winter project getting some stag on mine since Cul already claimed yours.

Before. I couldn't get the first index finger knuckle into the hole.

After. Now I can get my index finger in midway between the first and second knuckle. I used the Dremel with a 1/2" stone wheel, then a cone stone to round the edge, then a buffing wheel with white compound.

yes, it would be a LOT easier if you carve off a bit of your finger to fit the hole rather than the other way round which will lower the value of the kerambit. using a dremel to grind off your finger is the really hard way to have gone, and buffing your finger after with white compound will not likely stop the bleeding. hold it in a blowtorch flame for a few seconds to cauterise it and kill the nerves so you don't feel it. if you hold it in too long, you can always eat the finger, i suggest some sticky buffalo wing bbq sauce. will taste like spare ribs. no need to thank me for the suggestions. use the kerambit to sever the finger. this will have the added benefitr of not needing to have it go thru the hole anymore as it isn't in the way any longer.
