:phehe, I get to go first:D

Good. It should be broken in nicely before I get it.
As long as I get it before J Williams, it shouldn't look like a recurve when it gets here :D .

If jwilliams had it before you, it would never reach you! It would escape to sweet, sweet freedom. :D

Unfortunately, I may have to back out due to the timing. I will be out of town from the 20th through the 25th. Bummer. Anyway, I do not want to cause a delay right off the bat like that. Cmdr, let me know what you think. Thanks. -DT

Ill be interested in seeing the out comes of the reviews you guys are doing, I've been eyeing this one for a while now.

Awesome:cool:

Due to the timing of receiving the new blade a little later than expected and my work schedule tomorrow, I am going to switch dttomcat and Sharp Eye so that everyone may participate that signed up.

Thanks for the info dttcomcat.

Order list edited.

Have fun with this one guys!

I cant wait to get to try it. By the time I get it I will have two Camillus/Becker BK-2s. one original the other is my custom one I did from just a blade blank. I will make sure I get a good shot of all 3 of them together. Doug

It was 6 degrees here when it left. Tomorrow is our last projected day of single digit highs.

Can't wait for this!

I just got the k nife about 5 minutes ago. It came brand new in box. Damn this thing is thick! It reminds me of the RAT 5 I had at 1 time.

It is alot heavier than any of the other knives I have around that size. My next day off is Tuesday, so I hope it is cool with you if I hold on to it till then. I will compare it to other knives I own around that size in camp related chores. I will have pics and my thoughts up the same day and mail it out Wednesday morning.

Hows that sound?

Tony - glad you got it. You have 5 full days on it so enjoy it and do what you need with it.

Thanks for posting you got it.

Allright; First off I want to thank cmdr249 for giving me the opportunity to play. This being a pretty big and thick knife I probably would have never got to play with one, as I prefer thinner smaller knives.

This is a beast of a knife! There is no way your breaking this blade unless you set out to do it; and even then you will probably not suceed! It came to me very sharp. The coating is good and so are the handle contours. The scales are not flush with the tang and in some areas it is kind of bothersome. However with gloves on there is no issue.

The Kydex sheath holds the knife well. It has a fabric belt loop attached by rivets. I think chicago screws would have been better; giving you the opportunity to remove it.
It still does the job well. Its pretty heavy for a belt knife IMO, but on a baldric or strapped to a pack it would be fine.

I set out to compare this knife with a knife of simillar size. The only one close that I have with a similar blade shape was my Fiddleback one off.

BK2036.jpg

My first task was to get a fire going. After I sectioned a few pieces of dry wood I made a couple fuzzies. One with the BK-2

BK2037.jpg

and 1 with the Fiddleback

BK2038.jpg

The wood wasn't the easiest to fuzz, but the thinner Fiddleback was alot easier than the 1/4" thick BK2. However it didn't do terrible. I would however thin the edge out if it were my knife.

I then used the square spine of the Fiddleback to scrape some tinder from dry branches. The spine of the BK2 with the coating wasn't doing good at this, but the edge worked perfectly!

BK2039.jpg

With a couple strikes of a ferro rod we had fire. I used the spine of the Fiddleback, allthough the edge of the BK2 would have worked if need be.

BK2040.jpg

I decided that I would put the Fiddleback away and just see how the BK2 would fare out in the woods.

I found some frozen hard wood. I sectioned it with my saw and started some batoning. The BK2 went through it with ease. Most of the time it only took a 2 wacks of the baton.

BK2045.jpg

Then I did some chopping.

BK2041.jpg

I found holding the knife like this gave me incredible leverage. It made this knife chop extremely well

More to come.......
