BK-2 Too thick?

I have always been curious about the BK-2. I think it is a nice design knife, but it seems like it is really thick at .250". What do you guys think about it? Do you wish it was thinner? Thicker?:D

I am contemplating pulling the trigger on one of these but I am not sure about the thickness. Seems like delicate chores would be a "chore" with a blade this thick.

Thanks

The BK-2 is indisputably great, but I love the BK-10 way more for exactly that reason.

I prefer the BK10 thickness but the BK2 handles really great for it's thickness. You can actually do delicate chores well because of the design and grind.
I just don't like the weight but it is a great knife! It's a great one knife option since you can use it to pry stuff and baton without worrying about it breaking.

Pair it with a BK11 or BK14/24 and your good to go for all the small detail work.

Great design but I prefer thinner & FFG. So I sold my BK2 and then made one in CPM 3V! And then . . . lost it somewhere in my freaking house before I could finish the handle . . .

Thanks guys. I was eyeballing the 10, but don't know if I care for the stubby point. How to do feel about it?

I would like to handle a BK-2 and see what they are like. Hard to judge what a quarter inch blade would be like without holding one.

ffg is full flat grind, I have the bk2 and bk10 either will serve ya well the 10 is a bit easier too use on fine jobs like feather sticks but the bk2 will survive the zombie wars lol its tuff as nails!

+1 on these comments. If I can only have one knife, it will be the BK2. If I can have two, it would be the 2 with a 14 piggybacking on it.

BK2 is a beast. The ritter BK12 is almost twice the price but fits more of what your ideal sounds to be. I love the 10 over the 2 as well but the 2 is one badass chunk of steel and it was my only becker for a year and I found that I could do everything with it. That being said when I got a 14 to go with it my knife life got a lot easier.

I agree with you about the stubby point of the 10. I do have a 2 and while it's pretty well indestructible, and I do like 1/4 " thick blades in longer knives, I find the 2 is too much for a 5" blade. My recommendation would also be the 12.

Its like a mini hand axe :D

The stubby tip is the same as the 9, its not bothersome

True! You better try handling a BK2 first so you can feel the weight, then you can decide if it will work for you:)!

I understand that - and it's tough to find someone who carries them in stock where I live. I finally got my hands on one at a gun show last November and it just felt like an extension of my arm. Well balanced and easily handled.

I didn't like the clip point or thumb ramp but liked the thickness and lighter weight.

I like the bk2. No problem with the .250" thick blade. I like it for the durability.

My first Becker was a BK2. Good knife but I find myself using a Bk-10 and Bk-7 more often due to the thinner blades.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I am kind of thinking the 10 might be more what I want. The thicker 2 is intriguing though. Seems like it could take a beating.

The BK-12 would be my preference, but I thought they were no longer made? Also the 12 seems like it would be out of my price range.

cschol --That looks nice. That might be the route to go. Get a 10 and then modify it. I am not too keen on the blunt look of the 10 and like how your modified one looks.

Thanks,
Greebe
