BK-2 Too thick?

Per the database: "Similar to the first generation, except the handles are now skeletonized, and there's a pommel hammer/striker, this drops the weight about a tiny bit (1.26 oz (toooj)) and move the balance a wee bit forward." This happened well before the new coating and laser etch. My 2 is at least 3 years old and it's second gen.

Bk 2 was my first Becker and still my preferred Becker along with the bk 9 for bushcraft. It's thick, but sturdy and can baton wood pretty easily. Can make feathersticks by choking up slightly above the handle for a very comfortable grip. Overall a great knife.

BLASPHEMERS!!!!! How dare you call my beloved BK2 fat!

I've never had a single issue with the thickness or weight of my BK2. It is hands down my favorite knife I've ever owned. I've done plenty of fine shavings, cleaned game, bushcrafting, chopping, etc. with my BK2 and it has not given me a bit of problem. I find it also lends itself to modification. Most of us can't help but mess with the BK2 to get it just the way we want it. I'll tell you what, that thick piece of razor'd up steel is very forgiving to the projects you will inevitably do to it and with it. BK2 for the win.

Great thread on the BK-2. It is about truth. Some people like the heft of the BK-2 over the BK-10 or perhaps the Ritter "BK-12".

The BK-2 was my very first Becker (1st gen). It has not seen much use as I tend not to carry this large (and thick) of a knife. I prefer the BK-16 for the kinds of things I do.

The things that James Terrio said are pretty much on target as far as I'm concerned. I thought about quoting, and then I agree with much of what was said. The plain and simple fact is that I just prefer a thinner blade stock knife. The balance is good on the BK-2, but it would never be my first choice for a skinner but I', sure it would work.

The edit function does not seem to be working and I add this....

Maybe choosing a BK-2 first is just part of the evolution of thought when looking at the Becker line. We all want a tough knife and the BK-2 is affordable. It fits the catagory very well and I'm glad I own one.

I remember Mr Becker telling us that when he was first getting started with his knives he took them to gun show's. When he was developing the BK2 he made three different versions. A thick one similar to what we have today and two thinner versions. The thick one was the popular one that got the most attention from people and ended up being the best seller.
