BK-2 Too thick?

Oh...... Now your talking!!! The 12 is my favorite of the large BK's!! Go for it man. Well worth it.

I love my 2!

Its my go-to knife for all my outdoors adventures! It feels indestructible! and everything (including lawnmowers, concrete blocks, and fridges) fall in its path!

Go with the bk10 crewman. Not too thick and does everything that the bk2 can do. And it's lighter.

I don't find the blade to be too thick to accomplish any task you could also do with a blade thats 1/16" thinner.
And as far as weight goes, according to the Becker data base on this forum, the 2nd gen kabar 2 is less than 2 oz. heavier than the 10.
If less than 2 ounces is too heavy, then you need the 10, and should have possibly eaten some Wheaties for breakfast. ;)
Guess you can't go wrong with either knife though.

I think the only "problems" with the BK2 are the "over" thickness and weight, and this means you don't need to trim or change anything to have a fine looking knife!

BK2 isn't too thick - it's a very comfortable knife, IMO. It will do small tasks just fine.

I love my 2, and everything about it. It is usually the 2nd knife I show people fter I've been talking about my BK24 or BK14 I have on me. It's my truck knife and goes everywhere with me so I whip it out and they all have the same reaction, "Holy crap this is AWESOME!!"

I'm not much of a large knife guy. Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal, I just don't know what I'd personally do with one. I actually find myself looking at smaller knives.

However, that 12 is a neat knife. Can't say I've paid attention to the 12 before.

Greebe- Im pretty close to you if youre still in WV. If you want to handle one, Ive got an older model2 Ill mail to you so you can check her out.

Not too thick at all. Works very well. Just like any knife, it;s what you get used to.

Yeah that would be great. It would be nice to get my hands on one. I will send you a P.M.

Thanks for your offer.

Hey I was going to send you a message but it looks like you don't have your account set up to receive emails, so you will have to email me if the offer is still good.

Thanks a lot,
Greebe

Is it true the BK2 is less than 2 oz. difference compared to the BK10? And what are the differences between the BK2 and BK2 second generation? When ordering a BK2 online how would you know if you are getting the first or second generation? I have read the only difference on the BK22 is the sheath compared to the BK2. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not an expert but I think the following is accurate, though not complete. Many people like the BK10 because of its slightly thinner blade rather than because of the small weight difference. The mfg. imprint on the first gen. BK-2 is stamped and the coating is smooth. The mfg. imprint on the 2nd. gen. is laser etched and the coating is rougher. Hope that helps a little.

2 and 10 are very similar in use,10 is thinner. 2 is better for batonning (it has no swedge). They both work better than they look like they do. The trick is in the long length of the grind. you could always grind into the swedge on a 10 a little to make the point the way you want it.

Though you could just get a BK-16...

How could you not want that!

The "Gen 2" version has been out for quite a while, so any 2 you ordered online would be the laser etched version. The stamped ones have most likely all been sold and would only be available on the "secondary" or "used" market.

Ok, the 2 is thicker than the 10 at the top of the blade, but at the edge, what about the difference at the business end?

I find that I have different Beckers that do specific tasks better, but the BK2 does everything pretty well. If in some crazy circumstance I could only take one with me to do everything, it would be the BK2. It was my first Becker and still my favorite.

Is the BK-2 too thick for a dedicated hunter/skinner/whittler? YES. I'd rather have a BK-16 for that.

Is it too thick for a HD knife that might be called on to perform a wide variety of tasks ranging from detail work to panicked hacking in a really spooky situation? With essentially zero concern about breaking it? Especially if you can only have one cutting tool for some reason? NO!

The BK-2 is very, very good for that purpose, and frankly a pretty dang good bargain... all of which I'm pretty sure is exactly what it was designed for :)
