Bk10 vs Bk2 for work edc

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and to the wonderful world that is Becker. I currently only own a BK11 for my edc but am looking to expand my collection to a mid sized knife. I'm trying to decide between either the bk2 or the bk10. I need a larger knife like those for work. Half the year I'm a contractor/carpenter and the other half I work on a farm, so a larger knife is edc for me.
That's where the BK2 vs BK10 comes in. I want something very strong, almost indestructible, but I don't know if I want to carry around the tank that the bk2 is. Have any of you ever had a durability issue with a bk10 under a lot of stress? I do not baby my knives in the slightest. (Just cut down a Christmas tree with a bk11.) And with limited funds I only have enough to buy one or the other, not both.
Thanks guys. Love this forum.

Get the 10 and you will still want the 2. Get the 2 and go from there. I got the 10 first and couldnt get the 2 out of my head. Then got the 11 and 9 still had that 2 in back my head. Got the 2 and cant really say i see a need for another, but god i want them all.

Get the BK 10

I got the 10, I didnt want the thick 2. The 10 is great. I have no desire for the 2. Then I got the 9, wow ive been using the 9 constantly....

wait,,,, get the 9,,, or get the 10 and then the 9 ,,, you need to get the 5 and 15 too

Get the 2 .i edc'd my bk2 for a year doing construction and it never let me down. I pried, hammered and cut whatever task presented itself and it took it with stride. I actually bought the 2 after reading the reviews, I was tired of breaking several other knives doing the same tasks.

If you don't plan on replacing the sheath I'd recommend getting the bk22 same knife better sheath for carrying on a job site. The one that comes with the regular 2 flops around too much for climbing ladders and such. (Unless you get an add on piece and attach a teklok)

The best option would be getting The bk22 and later on replacing it with a kydex sheath. Makes carrying it on a job site 100% easier, no straps to mess with I or worry about. Need the knife just pop it out and pop it back in when your done. Allows for one handed operation for those times your other hand is busy.

The 10 is the same thickness as the 9. I haven't used the 10 yet, but the 9 has been more than rugged enough for my needs. So much so that I discovered that I have no need for knives as thick as the 2 anymore.

So if I could do things again, I'd get the bk10 instead of the bk2. I think for something that you're carrying around everywhere, I'd go with the lighter 10 for sure.

The 2 is a great knife. But for EDC? Get the 10. Or the 16! Geez, if you are willing to cut down a tree with an 11...

Ideally, get a 16 or 10 for your belt, and buy a prybar and an axe for your Jeep.

My Nephew showed up at my house early last summer with an Esee 5. I was enamored with the 1/4" blade, the heft of it, the just gut level ruggedness. At 1/2 the price I bought a BK2. I like the grip so much better on the BK and it has similar steel, a deal I would not hesitate to make again if given the choice.
I have a drawer full of knifes so the BK2 will probably be my one and only Becker... but I love the BK2. It could do so much more than anything I've asked of it so far.

Here's a pic of mine when it was new.

Using the 11 for the tree was only because of absolute necessity....and to see how much it would take! Thanks for all the input.

Have any of you ever broken a bk10? I haven't heard of anyone doing so. Unless maybe they put it in a vice and tied the end to their truck and went for it.

10 for EDC unless you want a thick tank, then get the BK2. It realy depends down to the weights and blade thickness you want.

The Ka-Bar website lists the BK10@ .75lbs vs BK2@1.0 lbs. If working around the farm you can tell the diff and .25lbs bothers you...then get the BK10.

A plumber I work with edc's a bk2 I sold to him every day for the past 3 months with no complaint. He mainly deals with commercial drains so he's not crawling around under houses or cabinets.

When I carry my 2 I prefer a leather scout sheath if I'm carrying multiple blades, or the stock 22 sheath if just the 2.

I'm not a big guy or a muscle man but I am accustomed to carrying a workbelt most of the time so I've never been hung up on the weight issues of the BK2.

Ok so weight is not as big of a priority, but what about the feel, balance, blade geometry.....is there any significant difference in performance when you are using them? I like that the 10 has a slightly longer blade which makes me feel like the balance would be better but without picking them up in my own hands its hard to tell from pictures.

I own both. If weight is not an issue, go with the 2. That's the one I choose 90% of the time. If weight is an issue I grab the 16 or 24. Oddly enough the 10 has never really just stood out to me, but it has definitely served a purpose. I try out any potential mods on it. Stripped, removed thumb ramp, ground down pommel, added choil, reground swedge area. The possibilities are endless, that's the beauty of Becker knives. Welcome to the madness.

I would get the 10. I started with the 2, but once I got the 10 I was sold. It's stout, you're not going to hurt it, but it's way slicier than the 2, all around just easier to handle. That, and the 10 won't pull your pants off as much as the 10.

If you can break the 10 then you're doing it wrong. I love my 2, don't get me wrong, but the 10 is fan bloody tastic. Both will do work site chores quite easily but my recommendation is the 10. Plus a dedicated pry bar..

Just be careful though, my 10 did this to me..

...but that's only because I'm a jock strap..

Get the 10..

That looks nasty! Been there though. Stabbed through the palm of my left hand cutting through an apple core a few years back....and then I didn't get stitches. Thanks for the input.
