Bk10 vs Bk2 for work edc

WOW, that's a nasty cut. BK10 is my current favorite knife. I'm confident that I'll never break it but mine only sees medium duty use. Get the one that calls to you the most. If you don't like it, it won't be a problem selling it.

So basically as long as you aren't stupid you won't break the bk10. I've been looking around and I've seen more pictures of broken bk2s and haven't seen any pictures of a broken bk10. It seems like that people think that the bk2 is indestructible so they beat on it like an idiot and it eventually breaks. Nothing is completely indestructible.

I was also looking for a good kydex sheath. Does anybody know if the Cleveland kydex company is good? It seems like they have good prices. Just haven't found much in the customer review area.

I was whittling tooth picks out of balsa wood with my BK10 and on the 49th toothpick my BK10 snapped in half

I'm sure Ka-bar is going to want to examine that 49th toothpick.

It's hard to do wrong by picking up a BK2. This past summer a buddy of mine asked if he could "test" the durability of my BK2. I said "why not?" Well, I go to check up on him 10 minutes later and he's putting the knife through a used fire extinguisher. Needless to say, the edge wasn't chipped at all, and only rolled in just a few places. It may look very beat up, but it was already like that before the "test."

There's allot more 2's out there than 10's, on The rare occasion a 2 breaks it's typically a defect. Or the knife was outright abused like throwing it. Also with the indestructible label the 2 has when one happens to break it draws allot more attention than any other knife. The good folks at kabar and Ethan Becker typically will take care of the situation as well.

My bk2 is my most used and trusted knife I own, is accomplished tasks what wouldn't snapped a lesser knife.

Now as far as kydex is concerned look at 710 customs, it's by far the best kydex I've bought. There may be cheaper makers out there, but you get what you pay for I've learned. 710 makes a high quality sheath and his attention to detail is amazing. He takes pride in his work and his sheaths reflect that.

I keep seeing people complain about the thickness of the bk10 not being a .25 in thick but the bk9 is 3/16 and nobody seems to have an issue with the strength of that. It is the "king" after all...

I know... that's what cracks me up. lol

I am a farmer and a builder. We use ours for everything farm related and hunting... Cutting open net wrap on bales, trimming branches for tree stands, prying open pallets, prying on things that are bent, hammering in hitch pins, and so on ... The 10 is a nicer weight and balance in my opinion. As a builder you know what a pry bar does to your pouch when carrying... Those extra ounces matter if it's on your belt all day...

Go with the 10.

Thanks for the insight. It sounds like we have very similar jobs. Good to hear it works well for hard use.

I've seen knives of much lower quality, such as the gerber strongarm, take tons of abuse and its only 3/16" thick. If a gerber with weaker steel can stand up to all of that I would think that a becker could. It just surprises me all the praise for the bk9 and bk7 but when it comes to the bk10 its like the shunned child that gets picked last in gym class. Looks like a great knife. Just don't understand the stigma.

For me it's not the thickness that deters me away from the 10, it's the blade shape. I don't like the swedge tip and thumb ramp on that size knife. I prefer the design of 2 for the tasks I used it for.

Split the difference and get a 12 (10+2=pure awesomeness). I like the blade shape of the 2, I like the overall feel and weight of the 10 (but wish it didn't have the swedge)....almost always the 12 is on my pack.

For basically the same price as getting the rsk I can get both the 2 and the 10. And from what I've heard its not twice the knife. My budget is pretty tight right now as well.

I absolutely love the 12. It's a beautiful thing. As far as the 10... It could be modded... with a few mods, you could remove the swedge of you wish. I like it on the 12. And you could mod the swedge into a drop point...

But for your application, it will be good.

I don't think the style of blade, whether it be drop point or clip point, matters too much for my application. Mostly utility tasks, like cutting, light prying, maybe some light chopping. Not going to be doing a lot of batoning while at work. Of course when I go hiking/camping I will do some but I've seen people baton with the bk10 just fine as well as the bk2. Its not like they span a lot anyways.

Get the 10. It is my favorite Becker. The 2 was my first Becker (I now have 16), but I've never used it. I take my 10 out a lot.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1451228631.061257.jpg
