BK10's Still Available

Who's making your sheath? My needs a sheath exactly as you describe.
It's a local guy that has a leather shop here where I live. I believe he is the 5th generation of his family to work leather. Some of the tools he still uses are over a hundred years old. I will pick it up in another week or so and will post pics. If you are still interested I will help you on this end.

I think I'll be calling to see if I can get my hands on one tomorrow. Look out savings. here I come.

Haaaa.....I know, I know, I have issues. I really needed that ESEE Izula, Izula II,3,4,5,6, Junglas, Machete, the damn arrow heads and a backup for a few of em.
I have a slightly obsessive personality that makes me crazy sometimes. Its a good thing I dont drink, smoke or gamble ;)

At least you don't hang onto em' long once you've made the decision they are not for you. You keep the exchange poppin' man. Besides you could be into hooker and blow.

Haa, good point man. My wife would shit a brick if she knew how much $$ I spend on knives and guns each month. But thats why they make 2nd and 3rd jobs ;)

ah man if i had the $$$ to drop this would be the next one on my list ( got a 2 and another 2 and a 7 in the mail right now:rolleyes:) but i dont know if i would really use it that much.........who am i kidding i dont NEED to use everything i buy....

This is SO true. If I did, I'd be in serious trouble, based on my addictive behavior with knives and gear...

Hey Moose I was wondering (like you dont have enough to do) if you could write a short (not sure what word to use) essay/report on the LE BK10? I know they sat in the Camilius warehouse for a couple of years as blanks but what year were they actually cut from a chunk of 1095 and then take each step from there right up to the beckerhead deal. Just a little written history of these special bad boys. I'll make a copy and toss it in the box so when I get old and forgetful i can just read about it. They say the body is the second thing to go......I forget what the first thing was. ;)

I'll check and see, but not sure if there is any way to tell it.

See, the blanks were part of the auction, when Camilus went under, and I don't think there were many folks around that would have know. Gibbs might have known. I'll ask him, if he don't see this and chime in.

As far as how long they lamented in the Kabar warehouse unused, Camilus went out of business in 2007. Kabar got them then. So, 4 yrs in the Kabar prison of unground blades.

How they came to be? Oh, that would be us. Well, actually, it was John Stitt, Master of KA-BAR, but we'll say it was us Beckerheads. :D

Naw, seriously, we (all the BKT mods, Ethan, Toooj, and Mr. Stitt ) threw around some ideas, but its finality was up to Ethan and Kabar. We (Beckerheads) wanted a forum knife, and since it was a special metal with a good backstory, it seemed to fit.

Not much really to tell, I'll get you some more and put it all together in a good story, wait, I have a better idea........

Moose

Just FYI. I called the factory this morning (Friday) and they do still have a few left. The gal taking the order didn't say how many, but she implied it wasn't much more than a few. She also said that the purchase price - $150 - includes both the grivory grips and the factory micarta grips. Shipping within the US is $8.

Well sure, I ordered one up!

Your gonna love it! I'm having a custom sheath built right now for mine and the guy needs the knife to build the sheath....I think i'm having separation anxiety. ;)

well, seeing as how i had a little involvement, i could add some spice ;)

the goto man for this would be Toooj most likely, as he was pretty involved being KaBar official and all...

one upon a time, there was Camillus, and they made BK10s...

Camillus sold a bunch. shafted Ethan ;) Camillus got theirs, and folded...

Shit sat in storage. a long time.

Auction. lots of shit sold.

KaBar bought pretty much everything they could across the board. blanks from many knives. handles. sheaths. other items.

180 BK10 blanks officially. pre-cut, but otherwise non-stamped and otherwise not finished. i THINK they might have been heat treated, but won't swear to it, given they HAD coatings, this is likely, from my remembrance.

they sat around. they sat some more. they were getting rusty.

KaBar's CEO guy, John Stitts, who may or may not be named was getting edgy about this stock.

lots of talks about what we could do for Beckerheads. the BK77 thing went well. ideas formed. many ideas about simplicity in processing the blanks and getting them out there. Beckerhead knife idea is born. a special just for US.

processing. blanks were partially stripped and tumbled in some manner to get that finish.

some were lost during processing/development, etc, and floor loss. called is 160.

some interesting packaging occurred. options. micarata. Beckerhead pricing and deals struck.

Beckerhead offering officially occurs.

exceptionally fine BK10 hits the streets. we're talking REALLY good effort on KaBar's part.

Ordering

about 65 Beckerheads opt in for the SPECIAL $100 price. this includes "all the bells and whistles, grivory, AND micarta" + $8 shipping. that was about 1/2 of the Beckerheads at the time. not bad.

time goes by

a bunch of other people step up and buy stuff

some of these LE BK10s show up in the forum for sales, and on ePrey. hah.

not completely sold out still. i encourage ANYONE that can buy one, do so. set it aside. use it. whatever. it's a SPECIAL knife, with a provenance that will not be repeated. ever. unique. cherish it.

#

that's about it.

Sure wish I coulda got the Beckerhead deal at $100. What a steal. Cant believe some didnt jump on that.
