I started this thread because I'm curios how many BK11 owners like the bottle opener.
I personally think the knife would be better without it.
What is the consensus here on the opener?

Do you drink good beer? If so, the bottle opener is good.

I use it all the time now. Maybe because the 11 is living in my pocket.

bottle opener fine! it was once called a wirebreaker I think it opens bottles better.

My vote is no. I wish mine did not have it. There are many openers around and I see no need to bring glass bottles on a hike. Without, would also improve grip purchase.

I mostly car camp. After several hours I usually "lose" three or four of the bottle openers I bring so I love to have as many as possible:).

Personally, I have no immediate use for a bottle opener; however, it doesn't seem to interfere with any of my usual grips in any way. A reverse grip might afford some extra comfort if this area were to be filled in, but I have never once needed to use that grip for anything practical.

Do I wish it was gone? Eh, not really. If, knock on wood, I ever do need it for anything at all, it is there for me. At the very least, it saves a tiny bit of weight... though without it the skeletonization could just as easily be rethought.

I've used it as a wire breaker, but not so much for opening bottles. If I had the choice, I'd prefer to keep it.

i'd suggest replacing it with pliers :)

I'd buy one without the bottle opener. And I can do without the handle cut-outs, too, as long as there are some holes to attach grips.

bottle opener all the time! Love it!

I reall like the bottle opener on it. It's a call feature on the knife.

I can use any part of the handle to open my bottles so I don't really need the bottle opener. I'd say keep the bottle opener if they lengthen the handle by at least half an inch. It would fit my hand better. I still love the knife and use it regularly but a longer handle would help out a lot.

I like it, more function is better than less right :)

I second the increased grip length. With the skeleton design, a little length increase is of negligible weight increase from the original.

Maybe thumb notches/grooves? I'd like that. And maybe an alternative version with a wharncliff (spelling?) design?

Being primarily a neck carry knife, I would rather not see the handle length increased at all. At least for me, if the handle were any longer, it might be uncomfortable to carry, especially while sitting down and under shirt.

While I am thinking about it... could anyone possibly post a picture comparing the sizes of both the BK11 and BK13? I was under the impression the 13 was smaller than the 11, but if not, it sounds like just the thing for a few folks in this thread. :)

I don't yet have one, so I can't confirm nor show you any pictures, but word on the street is that the BK2 has no cutouts. Unless you are intent on neck carry, you could opt to go the route of one of those, sans scales. No skeletonization, no bottle opener and at least two holes for wrapping/making custom scales.

everyday i use it to crack open icy cold beer after work. Love it!

FASCION, here ya go:
