BK12

91b you so sexy! way to pass it on....

I've been looking at that one but, i don't like the "brahma bull hump" on the spine. i would be removing that and bubba'in that puppy it wouldn't make sense...to mess up a numbered knife. speaking of bubba'in that knife....anyone do just that?

Neutral is generally considered in knife vernacular to be when you have the knife gripped in your hand normally and it is balanced on your index finger. let go with the other fingers and thumb and it sits there. Thus, as you note, with weights in, the RSK Mk2 is neutral balance. Micarta handles are heaver than the hollow plastic, so no weights sorta approximates the neutral balance. If you remove material and keep the weights in, then it is very slightly handle heavy. Different strokes, which was the whole idea. ;)
Thanks for the reply. Love the knife.

I know some may find this slightly sacrilegious, but I altered the handle on my 12. I love the Becker handle on my 9,7, 4 and 5, but the 12 is a different animal for me. To me the 12 is a big brother to the 16, and serves the same purpose with the added bonus of a larger blade. It's a multipurpose tool, and it fits my preference for camping/hiking trips. The only things I wished I could change were losing a bit of weight and slimming down the back of the handle. It's wonderful for chopping and really locks your hand in where it belongs, but that's not what I do with the 12, so I killed two birds with one stone and ended up with this-

Looks good CB! I like the rounded finish. Looks very comfortable. Did you think about grinding the pommel flush with the scales?

If you compare it to a stock 12, I made the pommel smaller, but I never planned to remove it. One of the things I do fairly frequently at a campfire is carving quick spatulas. It's much quicker and easier for me to pound my knife into a log and draw the wood I'm carving against the now solidly imbedded blade instead of pushing the knife away from me. I can strip off a lot more wood in a hurry. I really prefer having the pommel extend beyond the scales to do this. I feel like it prevents me from damaging the scales, although I don't know if that's really true.

Makes perfect sense

It's funny, I would never do this to one of my bigger Beckers. I wouldn't even want to. I love the stock handle on the larger ones. On this knife it just feels right. For me.
