bk14 good idea?

Great idea.

Don't listen to Moose. He's not himself.

The 14 is awesome. I carry it anywhere it's not restricted.

I replaced the fasteners that came with the zytel handles with #6-32 x 3/8 Stainless Socket Head Cap screws (from Ace). Be careful not to overtorque! Those handles have since been replaced by the ESEE micarta ones for the Izula, like Geektechnica's pic above. They're nearly the same price (~$12 for two sets of zytel [orange and black], ~$15 for one set of micarta).

havnt seen an izula for less then 50$. at 33$ for a bk14 im closer to covering the cost of custom kydex :)

You don't need to buy an Izula! The Eskabar is the knife you are looking for!
:D

My 14 with stippled factory scales and an AZWelke sheath set up for horizontal carry. It's one of my favorite EDC knives ever.

Wouldn't trade my BK14 for anything . Great little EDC & never noticed any "dulling" from the sheath ... Got the Izula scales on mine ( slight filing needed ) and is worth every penny !!

Great idea just got one a few days ago on amazon for 33.86 and love it. I would suggest getting a set of handles for it though.

Get you a 14 and a leather pocket sheath from skystorm. Best combo you can do for edc imho.

I concur with the EDC-ing of a BK14. I got on of the members on BF to put a slick convex on it and use it for all sorts of things.

What kind of clip did you attach to the sheathe there wasatchdan ?

It's a small Bladetech tek-lok. Nice, hardy. It's only drawback is that it must be used with a belt or strap. You cannot clip them to your waistband like a g-clip.

Yep.

FWIW, I've been using a Spyderco G-clip for the last month and I think I prefer it to the Tek-lok. The only issue with the G-clip is that it is not as easy to put on and take off as the Tek-lok, but it is way more comfortable.

wasatchdan,

The Tek-Lok is bulkier than a g-clip, but a good deal sturdier. I typically use a g-clip because I can make my own, and having a separate Tek-Lok for each sheath gets pricey. I've had numerous g-clips break, usually from over-extension. I'm a bit more careful now in how I have the clip attach to the sheath. Early versions tweaked the clip around the handles, causing undue stress on the clip.

If you're going to make your own clip, I highly recommend stainless screw-posts. The aluminum ones I got at Ace tended to strip out or fall apart under pressure.

I personally love my 14, and just picked myself up a sheath from Azwelke. Got to say I like it much better than the factory sheath especially with the dulling issues, other than that there isn't any reason to dislike the knife.
