BK14 micarta scales **Resolved**

That's crap. Epoxy putty should fix that up nicely, however. Just fill the gaps. Or you can make a new spacer that fits in the middle between the scales. I can't say my tolerances are always the same, as I've noticed that there seems to be some differences between the handle fits on my Beckers though. The handle I made that fits my 10 has a pretty large gap when I fit them to my 2. But I don't charge for my scales :P Certainly not that much, especially for micarta.
Not familiar with epoxy putty. Hard to use and how please?
After the pics, I call bullshit on that one. Caveat Emptor.

Ditto!

@Lecter

Send them back for a refund if you can. Then get the ESEE micarta scales. There are loads of stores selling them in Europe. Heinnie in the UK has them for 19 GBP. Thats 29 bucks.

Could have gotten them here for about 15 Euros, thought SC did good work! They don't do refunds so they'll get a bad score from me since they haven't even taken the time to write back to address the problem.

To me it looks like the scales are upside down, however it also looks like a poor fit. Is the gap just on the inside or is the fit along the spine no good also?

Tried to fit them in several ways and no dice. The fit around the spine is fine.

The epoxy putty is really easy to use, it's like playdough. Usually two different colors that you kneed until it is a uniform color then just press it in. for this use I would definitely go with the putty. That way you dont have to glue the scales to the knife. You can get it at any hardware here in the us idk about germany. It's really easy to sand also.

I'll hit my hardware store tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.

Hang onto your hats, boys and girls!!

This is the answer I just got from Saintcutlery!!

Hi Paul, no problems, I will send another pair in a week or so(as soon as I catch up) and you can do whatever with the other pair. Sorry for not answering your email, but I could not figure out an alternative payment method for an international sale, but I will however, send you a pair of OD green handles for your BK2 when I ship the others. Things are hectic around the holidays, and I certainly missed a critical step in the making of your BK14 handles, I apologize, and will make it right...Michael

WOW!!!!

Well you can't really ask for more than that can you?

Nicely handled by Saintcutlery.

Good for them, that worked out very nicely for you!

Ok, I take back my "call bullshit on that", the guy made a mistake, and is fixing it, the right way with something extra thrown in, to make you happy.

A good man and a good business man.

Fantastic.

I would return them and just wait till you can get your hands on the Beckers that'll be out soon (end of month). Or just modifying a set of ESEE scales is a good idea too. I'm pretty sure a kid could've done a better job on making those scales for ya.

Eli

That makes me feel a ton better.
I had heard good stuff about Saints cutlery before so I was surprised by the problem.
Glad to hear hes working it out and then some.

I have ordered a couple sets from them, He usually does a much better job than that. Mine all required a little sanding to flush up things but I figured that would be the case with the older camillus things they went on. Good he is making things right for you, He seemed a pretty good guy when we chatted.

Hey good to see it worked out. Mike is a great guy. When I ordered my handles for the 11, after a couple of weeks I emailed him and told him they had not arrived. He checked and said that somehow they were in another state. He sent me another pair quickly. Well a few days later the other pair arrived. He was so nice about the whole thing I emailed and told him I would purchase them to do a GAW here on the forum. He said it sounded like a good idea and gave them to me for free to do the GAW. can't ask for better than that!

Sometimes life is just and fair... Nice one!!

(I really really like when things is much better than they sound at first... I try to remember stories like these when s**t hits the prop.)

good to hear -- will definitely look forward to your post on BOTH sets of scales when they show!

You can take that to the bank!

Very cool! I've had a pair of his scales on my BK2 and have been pretty happy with them.
Glad to see you are taken care of!

Hey Lecter, would you sell me your Ka-Bar micarta when you get the ones from Saint Cutlery? Or the SC ones if you like the Ka-Bar ones better? If so, shoot me a PM!
