nice job on that patina. kind of a "false san mai" look

scales look grippy too

Thanks. I went for a faux hamon aged tanto look. It came out okay. I recently replaced the grips with the factory micarta...we'll see which I like better with time. This knife is my edc fixed blade...I keep it molle'd to my 5.11 Moab 6 bag. Nobody bats an eye, I suspect because the color of the sheath and scales match the bag.

I am also digging the scales on Agonys 15.

The only decent photo I took relatively recent was over the winter in front of a frozen sand due.

Man! What a great thread! I won't add pics now. Mine is fresh NIB, so you know what it looks like. But I have it, and I have Citristrip. Now, I must get to work.

I couldn't leave the brown scales brown. I wanted something a little different so I took 'em to work and put a matte blue finish on them.

Toxic green, Hi-vis orange and yellow have been done and I thought white pearl might be a bit too "Texas BBQ knife":D.

The blue makes it look a bit less menacing or tactical and a little more visible.

What say you good folks? Should I re-do them? Maybe a sparkly vivid gold or a low rider-ish red candy? :p

Candy Brandywine Red, or House of Kolors Mystic that was used on the '96 cobra mustang. With the contours of the scales, they would show plenty of variety. :D

Honestly, I like the blue, a red/white dive flag coloration may be Really visable as well.
What did you use for the coating, is it slick when wet, can it be media blasted prior to adhesion or any media included prior to baking/painting to add texture? Crushed and lightly rounded walnut shells would add some nice texture if small enough.

Thanks Bill.

I used automotive refinish paint. Standox if you're familiar with the brand. I have the Mystic and the other Chromaflair (chameleon) colors here but didn't want to go too flashy.

I just finished it about two hours ago so I haven't used it yet. Cleaned with a soap containing an abrasive designed to clean and scuff plastic bumper covers. Gray scotch pad, cleaned with solvent then waterborne wax/grease remover. Applied an adhesion promoter, then a 2K urethane sealer. Solvent basecoat applied then finished with a 2K matte clear. The same clear coat used on the flat black hoods of the new Dodge Challenger Hellcat :p.

I did the same with my BK7 years ago but added a texture additive to the top coat. We no longer carry the texture additive so I had to skip it this time.
