When I picked up the 11 for my giveaway a couple months back, I also got one for myself.
I love my 24, so I've been trying to figure out what to do to make the 11 stand out.
I think I figured it out.

I have a 15 on the way!
(Yes, the 5 is still to come - just need to replenish the funds and set to work on these for now.)

Last summer, a neighbor's giant Elm tree with a beehive in the trunk gave up the ghost. I helped him clean it up a tiny bit, and saved myself a branch which should be just right for a few sets of scales.

I'm thinking to shave the spine of the 11 into a bit of a trailing point. Add some elm scales, and keep the bottle opener.

I'll use the 15 as a guide for the profile.
Put matching scales on the 15, and work up a set from the 7 scales in the garage for when the 5 finally makes its appearance.

I'll try and start work in the next week or two, but I expect this to be kind of an all-spring-long project for me.
I'll post updates here from time to time.
And see if anyone's done a 3-blade quiver or something so I can keep my Camp Knife Set together.

A piggybacked piggyback sheath would be the perfect finish, IMO. Looking forward to seeing how this comes along. I keep eyeing my 'leven....I'm just about ready to unwrap the paracord and go to town (judiciously, of course) with the belt grinder. I keep seeing these great 14 & 16 mods and it just makes me wanna give it a go myself. I think the 11 would look cool with a little bit of trailing point pizazz.

Sounds like a cool project. A mini 5/15 would be very useful. Good luck and be sure to post up pics!

I don't even have the 15 yet, but couldn't help noodling and doodling on the 11.
The big space in there is for the 15 - and hopefully a final draft on the TP 11.
The upper one was to get the spine as horizontal as I dare.
The lower one is to preserves as much of the handle as possible.
Both have the guard knocked off and a choil ala my trusty ergonomic PM2 to give me a tru 3-finger grip.
Obviously the bottom one is bone-stock.

Questions? Concerns? Comments? Let 'er rip!

If Warrior or someone wanted to mock one of these up and put it next to a 15, I would not be averse...

The 15 has arrived!

All I can say is "Wow." After the oversize mycarta ones I made for my 16, I forgot how nice the stock Tweener scales feel. Yes, they're a little thin for chopping and hard labor - but for a camp slicer like that - they feel just right. And so slicey! What an amazing point. Fantastic, fantastic knife. I should've listened to you guys and gotten one sooner. Much sooner.
I've GOT to try to incorporate that swedge onto my 151. I think I'm going to start calling it that. BK151. Trailing Point Necker / Camp Paring Knife.

Even picked up the requisite stainless hardware.

As long as I don't honk it up along the way, I think I'm REALLY going to enjoy this.

Picture's kinda light. I'll try again.

Thanks a lot, TJ.....I unwrapped my custom paracord on my 11 because of this thread. Your drawings look pretty good, I like the third one down...
I've also been playing around with taking out some of the "drop" in the rear of the handle.

Mike - So sorry??? :)

The third down is what I'm calling my "final draft concept" - unless someone points out a valid reason why I shouldn't, that's the one I'm going to try to create.
I can understand wanting to smooth out the handle a bit - but my hands are big and leery of removing any metal I can hold on to.
Of course, if you model it up and I like it, I may pilfer your idea...

Now, where can I get some layout fluid locally...

I did a little drawing the other night, finally got around to scanning it...of course, my hands are not so big so I was looking to "daizee-fy" the tang a bit:

Of course, it'll need scales after the excess metal is ground away. I might even grow some hair on my chest and give this a try.

#5 down there looks like a whole new knife. Very nice, Mike.

I went a different route:

SO glad I didn't try anything like this on the 24. Even in 1095, cutting of that guard probably took 3x longer than cutting the entire 2" of bar stock.

Grinding was a different story. Choil came out somewhat larger than planned. Went from odd and lumpy to "oops, overdid it" in no time flat.
I mean - I meant to do that! Much less risk of catching a finger at the transition.
I gotta say, it feels awesome in hand now - fits so much better than getting pinched by the guard and mini-choil. Could ALMOST keep it scale-less.

More to come...

Nice, TJ! It's the true test of making or modding anything if you can turn that "oops" moment into a "design opportunity"...and turn it into "I meant to do that!"
So.....whatcha makin' outta that piece o' steel?

Thanks Trade.

Mike,
I'm just going to use the bar stock as a guide for cutting/grinding the spine of the "151". I figure I can shape it first, and if I mess up, I can try again on the other side - instead of buying another 11.

It's just cheapie hardware store mild steel so it isn't worth cutting to a useful shape and finding someone to HT. But it's worlds easier to work than hardened 1095!

tjs and granite, very interesting design changes to the BK11. The introduction of the sweeping curves really gives good visual impact. The handle redesign gives more room for a comfortable grip. I'm looking for an excuse to start another small project and I just found it. That's a way offI've got two other projects to finish. Hopefully soon. If I were to incorporate any of your ideas, I will ask your permission first.

Permission granted, hawkhead. I'm not gonna jack TJ's thread anymore. Gonna start one of my own; a big thank you for pushing me over the edge, TJ. I really did need to stop fantasizing and start grinding, and this thread finally got me there.

HH, you're welcome to incorporate any of my ideas into one of your designs. Frankly, I'd love to see your execution of the plan in my head - because it will be so far beyond my ability to render it in steel. But I'm going to try anyway.

GSoM - I don't mind you "cluttering" my thread - but now I'll go take a look at yours!

No new work done yet, but the steel "template" is getting cleaned up.
And the G10 liners came in:
