"BK151" Trailing Point Camp Paring Knife - Update: Piggyback 710 Comes Through!

"It's a present, Dave, from me to me!"

Always look forward to your "little projects" Mike - thanks for the kind words.

Not quite done, and my PhotoBucket is overloaded again, so no new pics.
But the 5 scales are shaped and, so far, sanded to 800 grit. A little more gray than the 15 and 151, but the grain is coming out and I'm coming to terms with 'em.
Amazing what a difference a bit of hand sanding can do.

Got the scales to 2500, cleaned with denatured alcohol followed by mineral spirits. I'm going to try to hold off coating them until I polish and patina the blade - which should commence shortly.
Pics to follow once Photobucket lets me back in.

Too bad about the photo hosting service.
Should be back up in a couple days.

I sanded the 5's blade to 2500 and polished with 3 different compounds. Shiny like mirror. Then I glopped on a bunch of vinegar/mustard/magic sauce mix and took it all away. Rubbed some of the leftover oil/wax mixture from the others on the scales.
These beauties are done.
Still gonna try to get a 3-way piggyback sheath, but I have a few outings planned for them coming up so I'm not quite ready to send 'em anywhere for fitment.

Pics to follow.

Pics!

Stripped

Polished up

Then, it all went to waste - Patina'd:

A trio of trailing point camp kitchen knives in small, just right, and really really big:

I like how the scales transition from light to dark, though still wish the full-sizers were a but lighter. Guess you get what you get when you rely on nature for design and use a single branch for the set.

Thank you, Mike.
They are darn useful - I just love 'em.
Sheath isn't quite figured out, though. It's serviceable, but the 15 doesn't go all the way down and the 151 can slip out. So later this summer I'll get something made that really works. But at least I can store and transport them together, as long as I'm careful.

Thread Revival! Lots of Exclamation Points!

Hmmm... What could this be?

Aha! Awesomesauce:

Nice and tight - they don't budge:

All this fits in here... :

Thanks JD! Great to meet you. Love the trailing-point 3-way piggyback sheath.

Thanks guys!

It's a little much to carry on my hip, but is great for dropping in a bag to transport, and for hanging off a limb or shelf for cooking outdoors.

TJ that looks awesome!

The more I see the 5 I feel the itch to buy one.
