Today saw me yet again chilling with the Mad Scientist, and today I didn't forget the eyelets. Also decided to go for broke and attempt a sheath style I had been wanting to do for a really long time now. Can't take credit for the idea, saw it on a thread in the Sheaths subforum (although the pics disappeared not too long after the thread was posted) but I finally got it done the way I wanted it. It looks more scratched up than it is, probably because of the flash on my cell phone camera. Anyways, here she is, the Mark III.

The layers of kydex are separated by nylon washers, acting as spacers between each layer and leaving the sheath "open" all the way around, allowing for much better drainage and easier cleaning should gunk or grit get inside. Retention is fantastic, and the thumb ramp I molded in works very nicely, similar to the one on my Magua sheath. All in all, this is definitely what I have been wanting for quite some time, and I am very happy with how it turned out. ThePointyEnd also has several pics of the process as well as his sheath that we made just like this one which he should be posting at some point.

That looks awesome! Kydex is not easy and you've done a great job ! Lookin good from here - I love the extra space to clean out gunk.

Such a simple adaptation and yet such a good idea, seems like a must have modification for any knife that's gonna see a lot of woods time. Good job!

More pics after the rest of the stuff was attached:

Wow Derek! That is very nice work. You could start selling those I'd bet. (hint hint)

Oooh, I like that.
Different order of operations to get that puppy together.

Yeah, it really is. Nice part is sanding can happen whenever, just wash it out when done.

Nice sheath Derek! I'm going to have to try that out!
I am terrible at making those drainage holes... Looks like a far superior design. I think it may even be TOO advanced for our civilization...:D

That's a really great set-up. Nice kydex ideas and work.

Thanks for making me feel inadequate.....again.
