BK16 vs. Esee Laser Strike

Nice writeup, derekh. Interestingly, the photo on the ESEE Knives website, http://www.eseeknives.com/laserstrike.jpg, shows only two screws instead of three, easier to access the hollow slot in the tang for the firesteel and tinder, and does not have the bow drill pivot. Maybe the photo you showed was a preproduction model?

Sorry, whereismyclock, the Laser Strike is not FFG. It's saber ground just past the screws, but I'm not sure if it's hollow ground or flat ground. And since it's 3/16" thick stock, as opposed to the BK-16's 5/32" stock, even the FPR BK-16s will probably have a thinner primary bevel than the Laser Strike. The production BK-16 will definitely be a better slicer, albeit not as stout as a Laser Strike. For my tastes, the BK-16 blade shape and handle look more useful and more comfortable, respectively. Nothing against ESEE; I like my Izula and ESEE-4 just fine.

Tanner, I opted for the pop up grappling hook. I find that it, along with the emergency cord i have wrapped on my sheat enable me to do such things as climb my tree/ observation post and scale the parking garage wall at the mall.

HAHAHAHA!!!! I love this place

The BK16 is considered the greatest knife ever designed in recent memory. It has no competitor. Especially one with a goofy name like "Laser Strike". If I DID have a Laser Strike, the first thing I'd do is punish it with a belt sander until that silly name came off. Sounds like a collaberation between ESEE and BudK. All its missing is a pop out ninja grappling hook in the handle.

That's good stuff.

Anything becker does ESEE CAN DO BETTER!

That picture above of the Laser strike is of the older tops knives version, The Esee does have the Bow drill divot, it's just on the opposite side of the knife and you can't see it in a lot of pictures. I spent most of last year really wanting a Laser strike and now that they are out I may or may not get one. Esee makes a quality knife, I like the coating better than Ka Bar's old coating and I like the serial numbers for some reason. On the other hand I hate the ergo's, handles too blocky and thin, they never did feel good to me. Esee's generally have a nicer sheath right from the factory but I'd say Becker's are more comfortable during use. their both good.

My thoughts exactly.

I just ordered some custom wood BK2/BK9 scales off of the bay. Same price as the micarta scales. There are some interesting patterns up right now. I've got my first two beckers on their way to me now a BK2 and a BK11. I'm thinking of trying the BK16 any the LS so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Oh? There is a 'Just ESEE' and not a TOPS/ESEE Laser Strike? That would be better for sure (than the TOPS, NOT the BK16). Name still sucks. Sorry.
