Yesterday while quietly watching the news I heard a loud scream from my wife in the bathroom following which she ran all the way out of the house. A large blacksnake had taken up residence in the linen closet. (Normally I do not kill snakes but when they are in my house that is different.) The BK9 was in the truck so I grabbed the BK2 and the war was on. This guy was perhaps 5' long and as big around or more than my wrist.

He was back among boxes of macaroni and other stuff which made a clean hit difficult but I inflicted several wounds, severed the last 8" of him, and then he went down along a drain pipe into the basement. Armed now with BK2 and a Surefire flashlight I found him again along the top of the foundation and with a rake pulled him down onto the woodpile. That pretty much sealed his fate as I now had clear shots at him.

Sorry no pics as his remains quickly made it to the brush pile.

This morning it is a bit quieter around here. :-) Beckers can be useful any time and for a variety of purposes!

My gf woulda been gone too. If I didn't know what it was I may have been gone too!! Sounds like its time to seal up the house a bit better. Expanding foam is some great stuff!

I don't normally harm animals unless I eat them, but snakes are exempt. The more pieces they are in, the better I like them.

Not very smart thinking.

Snakes are a very effective form of natural rodent control.

One of the few that will target the nest.

Rodent populations help support and spread ticks and other parasitic insects.

Snakes are Our friends.

The correlation of the decline of snake populations and the rise in Lyme disease and other insect born illnesses is disturbing.

Snakes in the house, NO; Snakes out in nature, YES.

Big Mike is right snakes are our friends. I can understand the situation though. When something/someone threatens our women, us men go into protect mode until the threat is neutralized. Shoot just last week I was on the hunt for rodents in the house. Although I caught the culprit, the wifey is still trippin.

Sorry you took my reply so literally.

The more pieces they are in, the better I like them.

That sound pretty literal to me.

You guys, I think C_Tanner is just joking...

I sure hope so, but this is a prevailing opinion of many people to ignorant to know better.

It is not a Joking matter.

We all need to set a good example, and to teach folks the folly of their ways.

snakes are a part of nature and they serve their purpose well, and im not one to go out and kill without eating but a wild snake in my house is as dead as any other unwanted intruder.

they eat cat in hawaii, ill give you the gruesome....they roll the cat whole (hair and all) into a bed of coals, bury with more coals, cook, crack open and eat. i hope everyone enjoys their lunch :)

Some pesky mice keep finding their way into my attic, I might just put a couple of snakes up there!
The only problem with that is that my wife hates snakes even more than mice.
I'll just reminder her that snakes are our friends.....pretty sure that won't help ease her mind.

What kind of snake was it? I know you said it was black, but I can think of two spiecies of snack that are black right off the top of my head.... The safe Black Racer (normally with a blue belly) and the not so safe Water Moccasin/Cotton Mouth (with a white belly).

...this is a prevailing opinion of many people to ignorant to know better.
Big Mike

The word 'ignorant' implies that one doesn't know any better. To say "too ignorant to know better" is redundant. :D

But I'm all about our slithery little friends. I'm a catch and release kind of guy, but I have no animosity towards those who feel different.
