I was just toying with the idea of extending the blade a bit on the BK2, and adding a choil and jimping. I know, somewhat of a sacrilege perhaps, but I made this to give you the idea none the less.

The original:

And extended with a choil, and jimping:

What do you think?

EDIT: Made it into an animation. Gives you the idea of size difference a bit more:

Here's what I ended up with. Finer jimping, and texture on the scales:

I think......

Go big or go home-

BEASTK2!! :D

Thats not a bad lookin design though:thumbup:

I thought the extra length would for 1, make it so you're not losing much edge since there's a choil, and 2, give you a little extra length for chopping.

Looks great! I know its just a concept, but could we get a bit finer jimping? Like a bit smaller, greater in number and closer together.

AWESOME concept !!! I, personally would like to see the jimping go 1/2 way down the blade. I am currently looking for a machine shop to do this to many of my current knives, for a reasonable price. I think 3" past the handle, maybe 3.5" with the choil would be awesome for fine work.

Please please please do it. That's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. (Well most beautiful next to something about 5'6" 115lbs and blond.

i don't like jimping much myself, esp with sharp edges... the BK7/9/10 jimping ramp is about as close as i want to come ;)

the length... mmm, duno. seems like it might interfere with close up edge to handle work, might not. hard to tell... i'm a big fan of my edge coming right up to the handle. a choil removes that.

If Ethan put it out tommorrow, you'd buy it!

probably. then again, i might get it as a gift from a loyal fan ;) or cheap off the forums ;} i might not use it though. straight to the vault :) next!

my knife pattern usage is pretty straight-forward. i don't like jimping much esp SHARP squared off jimping. tend to get rid of users with features i don't like.

i do like the choil on the BK5 though, so who knows.

also, i bet that animation is making someone's chicken excited and rampaging

I like the looks of that, but I would drop the choil, I don't like them, but that is me. If it was made tomorrow, I'd buy one.

Good rendering too, brother, that is well done.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. This has been in my head ever since I discovered the BK2, for whatever reason. I agree the jimping could be finer. I had the zoom on the GIMP program when creating it, and when I zoomed back out I noticed it was a bit aggressive, but it was getting late and I rolled with it. I personally don't see where it would mess with the close up work. Your finger would be so close to the blade. I originally put a choil at a slight angle. If you hold your hand as if you were holding the knife in such manner, your index finger isn't flat, but at an angle. This would also aid in your finger not sliding down the blade. But, I just couldn't make it look right. It was a rush job. It was getting late. A fun project none the less.

I remember reading before you didn't like choils. I guess they're not for everyone. I don't know if I would even like it or not, tbh, once I got out in the field. But looks wise I sure do, lol. Thanks for the compliment, btw.
