I received my replacement sheath from KaBar today (previous one was broken, and I had a thread about how to carry the BK2 scout style because of it). The knife retention strap was broken (more specifically, the button), and the sheath dulls the knife on half of the blade.
I informed KaBar about both of the problems, and after about 11 business days, the new sheath came, and everything about it appears to be fine. I was about to throw out the packaging, when I noticed something interesting on the packing slip.
Check this out.
Notice how it says "NEW SHEATH WITHOUT GLASS".
The reason that I am asking this is because I know that normally the sheath for the BK2 is glass filled plastic of some sort (right?). I read somewhere that people were thinking that the reason that the sheaths were dulling the blade, was because of the glass fibers in the plastic. If the normal sheaths have them, and the people that report problems with them do not, then this appears to have been a very true theory.
The question I have is does KaBar ship out different sheaths without glass in it for people that request them? Or am I just incompetent and didn't know that all of the sheaths were like this?
I'm not worried about it at all (meaning, not worried that something is wrong, and that the sheath is "defective" again), but I thought that this might be an interesting discovery if no one else had noticed it yet.
