BK2 replacement sheath question (NO GLASS)

How can I get an eskabar sheath that is glass free. I am deducing from this thread that they do exist. I am sure I will have to pay for this free sheath (sorry Bladite, I couldn't resist ;)) and that is not a problem. I just want to be sure that it is glass free.

If you want a non-glass factory sheath I'd start by emailing Kabar (the email address on their website) to inquire about purchase.

Honestly though, while it's an ok sheath I wouldn't really want to pay much of anything for it. $15-20 shipped? Maybe, I might rather spend the extra $$ and get a nice kydex sheath.

May not be the answer you were hoping for, but as Bladite said, that's what you get with most knives.... an ok sheath if you're lucky.

I paid a lot more for my Fallkniven S1 and the sheath is really not that great. Does it dull the blade, no. Does it rattle, yes. Does it retain the knife, not very well. I had to mod it with a ranger band or else the knife would fall out if inverted. They also offer a leather sheath, just like Kabar.

ESEE knives probably have the best factory sheaths out-of-box, but you'll pay more in the first place. ESEE-6 will run you about $120, compared to ~$50 for the Kabar USMC or ~$70 for the Becker BK7.

But even ESEE sheaths may not make you happy. Want a MOLLE backing instead of the clip it comes with? Gonna cost you. Want a leather sheath? Have to go custom, gonna cost you.

I would just shoot kabar an email and see what happens. Like I said, my experience was pretty good, but then again I had a sheath that wasn't functional from the factory, and they made it right.

I've heard of people buying new sheaths through kabar separately (usually the leather USMC one though). I'd just email them your question.

Also, I've heard of some different methods to help fix this issue. The glass in the sheath can be worn down through use. Have you tried wearing it in at all? Just sheath and resheath the knife a bunch of times (like a hundred or two hundred times). I've also heard of people taking a little file, and filing down the edge area there, and even doing something like adding a liner to it (using paracord outer casing) on the area that rubs.

Maybe give one of those a shot?

Good luck man.

Yes, I forgot to mention this too.

Good point.

So first the guy goes bashing ka-bar and our Tooj as hard as he could, then he is asking for help from ka-bar? i think Toooj reply was well justified.

Its quite bothersome really, but since im new ill hide my true feelings on this fella. Im quite happy actually with bladites responses to both threads.

Find another blade thats comparably as good as a Becker, with a better sheath, for the same price..... Ill wait.

Esee (any really) = becker with micarta and custom sheath.....

you picked how you wanted to spend your money, you purchased a great knife that is priced WAY below its value and then you get mad that the sheath isnt worth more than you spent?
A good kydex will run you 40-100+ bucks alone, how do you expect kabar to sell a knife for 65ish if the sheath is costing damn near that same amount?

i have a glass filled sheath, practice good control sheathing and unsheathing, ride the spine out not the edge. 9 times out of 10 i blame the operator for the issue.

Anyone can go back and read all thru these boards and see just how much ka-bar and becker really do care about their products and their customers.

Regardless i wouldnt bite a hand, and then ask to be fed!

Sorry.....

I am not super picky on sheaths. People complain about the sheath that comes with the large heavy bowie, I don't mind it. I don't care if sheaths have quick belt release capability, molle attachments, rattle etc. I like my rc 6 sheath, clip plate and all. Leather, cordura, kydex, plastic-all fine by me. Hell I don't even care if the finish gets marred. I just don't like sheaths that dull the blade. I hope I am not coming off as picky

most people dont like the factory sheaths, its common. i have no issue that you dislike the sheath. im not in love with it either, but my issue is bringing up multiple months old threads just to complain and call out our favorite peoples that come in here all the time just to help us out ( excuse me if im wrong) but it sounds like a childish thing to do just because they wouldnt ship you something free.

Im not trying to be rude to you im just saying theres a better way to do things, posting others messages (probably a private message at that) and calling them out, just to then ask what you can get from them might not be the best way.

Again i apologise if this seems rude, its not my intention, but i would stand up for anything i care about, and i care about this board. hope you understand.
