Bk2 sharpening

I too was a bit intimidated at first, but It's not that difficult as long as you can maintain a free hand 15 degree angle or so to knock down the "shoulder" near the primary edge. I used the same method in the video CamH posted above. I just started out with a 100-200 grit paper up to 600. Took about 30-45 mins to smooth down the shoulder and achieve the convex edge. You can easily start to feel the progress as the edge starts to convex. After using the 600 grit, I switched to a leather strop loaded with green compound and stropped with 100 passes or so resulting in a nice polished sharp edge. For maintenance, should only require stropping or occasional 400-600 grit paper refinement the stropping.

I don't have any knives I wanna wreck

Niether do I, I just pick out some cheaper users and go for it. Seriously watch that video I linked and some of Mike's other ones.

I don't have any knives I wanna wreck
Go get a few of the infamous $1 knives and file the serrations off for practice. That way, if you ruin the knife it's no big deal. I learned this way myself. I went from "knife's dull, need a new one" to freehanding an edge that will shave bits of paper off the side of a sheet of phone book paper without cutting all the way through on those.
The bk2 blade is too thick for the sharpmaker to efficiently sharpen. I would take the stones out and use them freehand. Hope this helps, good luck!

Convex: DerekH has the most simple method, I think in his sig. Did it on my 7 and 11 worked fine. Considering it for my 4.

Sharpening: Black/white compound on a strop is best. Green mostly just polishes, but very good for upkeep.
Ceramic stones I find are best for carbon steels. I use a Fallkniven DC4(diamond/ceramic)

Whole system(convex, sharpen, and maintenance=aprox $50 if you're looking right)
