BK7 or BK9?

Hey guys, Im looking at adding a larger blade to my mix and was looking at these two. Any thoughts as to which one I should get? I did entertain the idea about the Machax but I dont know how I feel about it. How are the handle(same size ?). I had a ESEE Junglass and sold it because the handle were just too big and long. Any help would rock. Thanks!

Both ! Yup, they are that good. Worried about size (& who isn't) then get the 7. Want a chopping beast, then get the 9. Handles are the same on all large Beckers, so if you like one, you will like the others. VERY ergo correct handles & i have small hands. :D

The 7 and 9 (and 2, 4, 10...) have the same handle. The 7 is faster and lighter, the 9 is a chopping beast. I own the 7, but will probably add the 9 later on this summer. If I had to do it over, I'd get the 9 first and get the 7 on down the road after the 9, 5, and tweeners.

Thanks for the input. Id love to see in hand pics of both side by side, if anyone can. These do seem like a lot of knife for under $100.

Or ---get the BK9 & put a choil on it for doing the small/er stuff.

Or --- same to the BK7.

You could get both for the cost of the Esee and have some left over to go towards the machax!

How will you be using the knife? Hard to answer this question without knowing what the knife will be for....

Thats a hard question that Im having trouble answering myself! Camping/survival tool. I dont see myself getting both. For some reason I like the blade length of the 7 but tip profile of the 9.

i got both and i think they are really great for the money...but i think the 7 is somehow a misfit...to long to be really handy to short to be an awesome chopper. if you only want one knife to do all kinds of tasks than the 7 (or any other mid size knife) might be a good compromise. depends on what you need.

I have a 9 but not a 7 so I might be biased, but I'd say the 9 overall. However, for just a normal survival knife I'd probably suggest starting with a BK2.... Tough call. They all can work, it's really a matter of finding what fits your personality.

As of last week, my woodsman's carry is a BK4 Machax on my right hip, BK2 on my left hip, and a BK14 around my neck. I might even keep the BK9 in my pack.... just in case. That pretty much covers me for all situations.... :-)

Does anyone know what Mr. Becker's thoughts are on these two models?

Yes, he loves them both lol.

I am debating between these two myself, I have a BK2, a BK14, and a FPR BK16. I will probably get the 9 first though. It is possible I am misquoting him, but I do believe I have heard Ethan quote an old saying in an interview that 'A big knife can do little knife things (even if it's not the best for it) but a little knife cannot do big knife things'.

Thats Ron Hood's line (among many other big blade aficionados). I have a 9 and love it, its my only Becker and I have been itching for a 7 inch blade but I want the Bravo 2 for that. Get the 9, their are a million 7 inch survival knives out there but not that many awesome choppers for under 100$ that are this high quality.

Man I just ordered the 7 from amazon and now thinking i should of gotten the 9.

Anyone know of anyone who makes different colored Micarta handles for them?

I don't have a 9, but my 7 is one of my absolute favorite knives. Definitely my go-to fixed blade
