BK9 Moose Style

Nice work overall although imo getting rid of the ramp is BLASPHEMY!!

Other than that I am stealing your mustard!

Very nicely done! It really turned out well. Thanks for the pictures of the process. I've really been debating stripping my bk2...this pushes me 1 step closer to doing it.

I dig it. I'm still debating removing the thumb ramp on my Crewman, I know it will suit me better without it, but my tools are limited to dremel, files and sandpaper. Still will eventually do it though. Nice work!

I have that very sander.. excellent so far (about a year), you can get a leather strop for it etc.. I use it exclusively to convex my knives.. quick touch ups, and I mean 'magic' quick...

what used to take me an hour to do by hand, I can literally do in about 4 mins..

funny thing, I was at a knife show and a guy strips the name off those and sells them for $149 with a couple cheap sanding belts and one strop..

the dude's my hero for sure..

I use just a good ol' Skil brand belt sander. Works so far on my mods, but I want a nice 3 wheel, seen some around at a few yard sales, but lacked the funds to get them.

I am redoing the patina tonight, I wanted it to be a little darker. Its funny, I have a Birchwod Casey "Rust Remover" cloth, a few swipes and the patina was gone, probably wouldn't have lasted anyway, it was pretty thin.

I'm diggin' the rampless blade, Ethan will probably kill me when he finds out, but hey, modding blades is how he got started, LOL. I like it on the 7, but not so much on the 9. Problem solved. I was thinking of dying the micarta handles, I got some forest green RIT dye, I wander how that would turn out?

Now, after the patina tonight, I plan on putting a razors edge on it, and polishing the edge to a mirror. Not sure why, but what the hell.

I finally got a guy who wants to learn some wilderness skills, and has about 400 acres to play on, so, I may have a new playground. He got the bow drill lesson and learned it well, now, he wants to do some wilderness shelters. He's a big deer hunter and we were thinking of building a "hunting wigwam" for him to use the rest of the season, so, I think I know what the BK9's next job will be.

I didn't get to meet up with Mist today, conflicting schedules, so, my pic session is kinda on hold, but I did get some while the sun was in a good spot.

Post those later.

Thanks, I do have a HF not too far from me and that is a nice price.

Print off that web page and take it in. If your store doesn't have the sale price, they will match the web price. Also, you can almost always find 10% to 20% off coupons if your Google-Fu is good. HF will honor those on top of the sale price most times.

TLD, what is your source for 1" x 30" leather belts?

www.leevalley.com

I bought some of my abrasives on ebay, I bought my leather/microfilm and compounds from lee IIRC... its been a while.. so you may want to shop it out but I think that's the best deal I could find..

Bladite: NO, one speed, I removed and threw away the platform as it was really just in the way, ymmv..

ETA: I just looked it up to make sure, a little hard to navigate site, but I found a direct link: http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=48040&cat=1,43072

Thanks for that link.
Bladite, it's single speed.

Beckerhead #42

For me, it always seems to be in the way, but I can put it back on if you want:D

Duct tape. :D

I think it looks good, man.

wow that turned out really good (and I love those scales). I've thought about removing the black coat on one of mine but I'm not sure. I'm worried I would mess it up somehow. But maybe I'll try one, especially when I end up having two of the same ones (probably will get 2 BK2's).

I've got to get me those scales though. The decision would be tough though whether to put them on the bk2 or the bk7...
