BK9 vs Hatchet vs Saw - With Pics

Hey Buckeye...... Should be cruising thru sun or most likely Monday morning.....Give me a call tomorrow on the cell 513 703 3143 anytime after nine.....

Ethan

Will do, Ethan. I really look forward to chatting with you. If I don't talk to you before your trip begins, have a safe drive!

I think this test wasn't measured properly. I'm a car camper which is the only time that I get to whip out the chopping toys but I'm a dedicated hatchet and folding saw guy. Seems to me the bk's for those who enjoy the bigger knives should always factor in that magic fun factor against other tools which the bk's clearly dominate in that category.

I'm certainly not a professional gear tester by any means, but I did my best to remove any personal bias. In this test, the BK9 outchopped my hatchet rather easily; fewer chops in a shorter amount of time. I will be the first to admit however that the hatchet I used wasn't of the highest quality, it is just what I had lying around. I plan to pick up a better quality mid-range hatchet like an Estwing and test it against the BK9. If anyone has one they would like to send me to compare against the BK9, I would be more than happy to do so and write a detailed review/make a video.

I think anything could out chop that particular hatchet. Doesn't negate the power of the 9 but there are better choices. That looks more like a roofers hatchet that a true woods hatchet.

Yeah, maybe. It looks a lot like the Yardworks hatchet I got at Menards. When I really looked at it, I saw the grind went side-to-side and it never had an edge until I worked on it. The Gerber Camp Axe, however, is a great chopping hatchet. That thing flies through wood like mad.

Awesome review! The addition of duct tape to the hatchet sets the validity of the scientific procedure for me ;)

I was waiting for someone to mention that, lol. The crappy material that was wrapped around the handle had ripped, so I duct'd it up.

OK, now for the next step: splitting wood. Put an end to the blade vs hatchet fuss once and for all. BTW, sans the saws. That would just be silly.

BTW, great test, and I love the pics!

Thanks for the time you took and the post. Glad to see the BK perform so well, and I learned a lot about saws. Like others I never thought about the quality difference of the saw being so apparent with the effectiveness.

Holy hell!!

His did you get he Laplander to go that fast?? O.o

I'm Gunna have to work on letting the saw do the work for me a d not try pushing it with force.

I love my 9!

Yep, I'll always take a large knife over any other tool(including a toothbrush).

Looks like at least one of the fellas at Ka-bar missed the memo about Uncle E stopping by.

Nice thread. I do wonder how a better hatchet would hold up, but not surprised the king held its own. How often do you use a hatchet though?
