I found this knife maker here on the forums and thought I would try one of his knives out. They are Black Bear Knives, his BF name is dpallatadka and the knife arrived and she is a beauty. Blade is made of CPM-S30V and it is sharp as hell!! I had the handles made of carbon fiber and I am surprised at how ridgid they are. The knife is very lite, but does not feel flimsy or fragile at all. He told me the knife would take about 4 weeks, but arrived in less than 3 weeks. I would recommend one of his knives, they are very nice. The model I have is the Metro Razor, I have put a pic on the bottom for you to see what it looks like.:D

It has a flipper with a liner lock. I will take a few pics and post it shortly.

Thanks for the feedback and pics! I've been checking these out but the pics on the site lacked detail. Knifemakers really need to understand the value of a decent photograph when selling online...

What sort of finish is there on the blade? Is it like a fine beadblast? Perhaps you could do a more comprehensive review and post it up in custom area?

Buffalohump, the blade, I think it is a beadblast but not 100% sure. I can email Black Bear Knives and ask. As for a review, I am not sure as I just received it. I cut some paper quick and it is very sharp. If interested I can send more pics to you, let me know.

Ah! Thanks. That's cool looking. I might need to check those out. Doesn't by chance have bearings, does it?

EMT Lee, I am pretty sure it does not, at least not in the pivot screw. It was a little stiff swinging open, but after 20 or so times it has loosen up nice. It does have a little detent ball on the liner lock to hold the blade closed(last pic, top of the liner lock).

I am glad to see this thread. BBK knives are fantastic. I have two and just love them. Once the word gets out, Mike and Deepak will be very busy. Also, these are not "liner" locks. They lock with a recessed spring bar.

The blade centering is nice but the blade has a different shape to it. BBK calls it Asymmetrical Cutting Edge or ACE as he calls it, I have a few more pics to show you what I mean.

I lucked into a Metro Razor on ebay last year really cheap. At first I wasn't happy with it because it wouldn't pass the spine whack test but after I examined the knife I saw that the tang face was so well finished that the lock bar was just slipping off when too much pressure was applied. I roughed it up with some 220 grit paper and it never slipped again. I really like the blade grinds. As JDieseljoe69 said it is a damn sharp edge. The flipper design works well. Light, Strong, Sharp, Good handle profile. Overall nice package.

JDieseljoe69, I just received my g-10 trapper yesterday and had concluded the same thing as you--that the blade centering was because of the ACE grind. I was just verifying my suspicion;)

By the way the fit and finish, timeliness of delivery and everything went great:thumbup:

...And man is it sharp:thumbup::thumbup: Undeniably the sharpest custom I bought to date and I've bought a ton.

That is a nice looking folder and I like that blade shape. My only niggle would be that the way the hardware is mounted in the CF scales looks a bit rough. Outside of that, I'd certainly like one of those!

Lycosa, it is a little rough around the torx screws, not that bad. It does not bother me as I intend to carry this one. Today was its first day of pocket carry. Only opened one box but it sliced right through it no problem. Like I said before it is sharp as can be.

Yeah, I did notice that. I didn't look down upon it though, because it can be difficult to get good finish on chamfers in composites.

I might suggest to the maker to use one of the Cobalt HSS Countersinks that McMaster-carr sells, they are some of the best I've found (even amongst full blown machine tool suppliers) for getting a perfect finish on chamfered holes. A single flute should be used, multiple flute is a big no-no in most cases if you want a smooth finish, especially on softer materials, and double-especially if you are using non-automated equipment.

Well I was at a gun show and I happen to spot this little Black Bear Knives knife. Just like me to go to a gun show and look for knives, and not guns. This little one is really cool!! The only problem was it got in to a fight with the keys in my pocket and got scratched up, that was annoying but I guess that will happen with pocket carry. Here she is
