Okay makers, let's get a Blade Show preview going and whet the appetites of show attendees (and inflict extreme psychological torture on the shut-ins :p ).

Please feel free to add your show knives - we'd all like to have a look.

For those who are image-posting-challenged, e-mail me your pics with a brief description of the knife and I'll post 'em up for you.

Let's get things started with a tantalizing trio in stag from Fisk, all marked with his 25th anniversary stamp:

First, a damascus Gamemaster hunter with some truly drool-worthy stag for the handle:

Next is an outstanding european boar hunting knife that will also be an NLT (National Living Treasure) stamped piece. The damascus blade is 12" long, with forged stainless steel fittings. The shell ahead of the guard is to be engraved:

And finally, a terrific mid-size Southwest bowie with a 7 1/2" blade of forged 5160:

Anyone with designs on this knife had better watch out for my flying elbows - they are very pointy and bony - you have been warned. ;)

Okay guys, let's get some more knives up!

Roger

Next,

Nice post Roger and great pics.

Although, you must have an inside track or something...because my guess is those babies will be gone before the doors even open on Friday. That is how it usually is with the big boys.

Nice pix, Roger! (I'm naturally assuming that you OWN all of these already and are just showing them off here to be sociable? ;) )

Yes, sad but true. I really wish Friday was for "show only". Things can be pretty well picked good by the time the doors open, even with VIP admission. And then you had better be moving in the direction you want to be quickly, or generally what's left of the well known maker's knives seem to vaporize.

Those Fisk's are just awesome, I would love to see them up close.

Hey Holger,

No they aren't mine, but will be on Jerry's table at Blade. Of course, as others have pointed out, they will probably last about 7 or 8 nanoseconds. ;)

Roger

Hi Blademan,

Lets not forget that the object of the exercise is to "sell" the knives. Knife Shows charge between $200 and $600 for a table. So obviously this is not a museum, which is where you can go and look at all kinds of art.

I realize that this has been talked about on numerous threads here. But what is keeping others from contacting the maker prior to the show...like Roger did?

What Roger left out (at least this is my understanding) is that Jerry is going to sell two of these knives by drawing. Giving those who get there on Friday a chance to buy the knife. I know, now there are problems with those who cannot get there till Saturday afternoon.

For those of you who feel like JT and Blademan. I would suggest you either make a table full of knives or set up with a table full of knives that you have purchased. Pay the table fee and associated costs (hotel, meals, air fare, etc.) Then stand behind that table for 8 - 10 hours a day for 3 days.

It will become crystal clear as to why pre-selling some knives prior to the show or selling as many as you can in the first couple hours is essential.

By now only our newest memebers understand that in demand makers are sought out before, during and after shows. If you want a knife from one of these makers, either order a knife and wait possibly years or "hit the pit" on Thursday night or be first at the table on Friday.

What is fair is that the maker has worked for years to get in the position of being an in demand maker. As such I don't think any one can point a finger or cry "foul" because the maker sells their knives as they see fit.

See you at the Blade Show!

Hey WoodWorkGhost...reread my post buddy. I didn't say it was bad, good or indifferent that the knives would be sold before the show opened. I just said they would probably be gone.

That is just a fact. I go and have a great time. Just want to make sure people know that what they expect to be on big name makers tables when they get there probably won't. It's either on dealers tables for hundreds more (which at least you get to see it) or in someone's pocket.

I don't fault anyone...and agree it is just part of the business. It's still a great time and talking to the makers is more than half the fun. :D

Roger, thanks for posting these pictures. I'm hoping some other show attendees will post a sneak preview as well.

Les, the discussion about pre-selling has already been had. Let's allow this thread to follow its intended course.

Here's a preview of what I will be bringing to the show :)

HI JT,

Fair enough, my bad.

Wulf,

The thread was heading away from it's initial intent. I brought it back on course. BTW, Im not Les. Although you're not the first to make that mistake.

Lol! :D That goes for me too. :)

Here's one more for your viewing pleasure - a hawk named "Barr" from Rik Palm, forged from a ball peen hammer. it has a 2" cutting edge and a 13" handle of ash.

Cheers,

Roger

This one will be there for a very special occasion many of us hope.

Sorry, this one was spoken for 3 or 4 years ago. ;)

I'll have this one on my table, but it, too, is spoken for.

5 1/2" overall, in Jerry Rados turkish twist carbon damascus. Black lip MOP scales with gold pins, and engraving by Jim Small.

Don,

That is a knock-out to say the least. Stunning work!

All these pictures are diving me nuts ;).

Did not mean to be so secretive since I collect test daggers. :)

I hope to be able to pick up 3 daggers from folks who are testing for their M.S. stamp.

No problem WWG, not bitching or complaining, just stating the facts. No mention of pre-selling or business ethics in my post, just a little mention that I would like to see some maker's work up close.
