I accidentally bid $21550.00 when I wanted to bid $215.50. I immediately wrote the BA Help desk and explained the problem. I immediately got a response saying they received the request and would handle it. I never heard from them again.

Well, the auction ended 4 days later with me as high bidder. The seller wrote asking me to send him the money. Now I'm stuck since I can't pay for the knife.

Blade Auction's Help system is totally worthless and for that both I and a seller are going to have bad blood.

Be ware fellow bidders that if you make a mistake (there's no second click when you bid) you are going to get stuck with the problem.

What, you ain't gonna pay 21 grand? :D :D
Seriously, this sucks, it is obvious you did not mean to bid that ammount. Be carefull before pushing those "Bid" buttons next time, hepls you better than sorting it out afterwards.

I bet the seller is very happy that you bid on it ! ;)

I would send an e-mail to the seller (cc to BA) explaining the error and that you had contacted BA on "X date" and was told that they were going to fix the problem. . .but didn't. If at all possible, attach BA's response to your e-mail to the seller.

I think that it's pretty sad, on the sellers part, that he wants XXX frog skins for a knife that isn't worth but 1% of your bid. I would use other terminology. . .but I've promised my wife that I'll be a good boy this week. :D

Keep up posted. . .this is going to get very interesting.

Who is the proprieter of 'BladeAuction' anyway?

Sems I've heard some things here about them.

Please keep us posted.

Sheesh! it would have been great if Josh had cleared up the misunderstanding, but ... can the seller have honestly expected to get that kind of money? :p

As far as I can figure out, nobody told the seller it was a typo until later. Put yourself in the seller's place -- somebody makes a ridiculous bid and ruins your auction -- likely the seller was trying to get that bid canceled just as hard as jsciii was -- but the bid doesn't get canceled, the auction ends -- what's he going to think, until he's told it was a typo? There are bozos who think ruining somebody else's auction is something to giggle about, you know....

A typo is not a rare event. There ought to be some way to deal with that kind of thing, seems to me....

Josh Burbank is a member here; maybe he'll have something to say.

It also means that the Maximum Bid function that is advertised to "...bid on your behalf by steadily increasing your bid by small increments until your maximum is reached..." is not working as advertised.

Try offering the seller to purchase the knife for fair market value since he probably has to pay for the auction.

Otherwise- forget about it. You tried to make a "good faith" offer.

Well, I wrote BA again and have not received a reply. Wasted effort I guess.

Cougar, When I discovered my error I immediately wrote both BA and the Seller (within minutes of the bid). I figured the seller should know in case things went badly (and they did). For whatever reason the Seller never responded until after the auction was over and that was only to tell me I'd won and how to pay.

Let me clarify that that the winning bid was not my high bid (thank goodness). Rather, it was like Greg Jones wrote in that every time someone bid it just jacked my winning bid up. There was no way anyone could win.

After the auction was over and I received the mail from the seller I wrote him again (at the same time I wrote BA again) but I haven't heard from him either.

Anyway, I've learned a valuable lesson, don't make a mistake on BA. At worst I guess only my good name will suffer (which sucks since I've always tried to maintain a high level). Elsewse I've learned some valuable lessons....

A GBU search brings up a lot of interesting reading about Blade Auctions. I wouldn't worry abaout it too much.

The seller never knows what was the maximum bid. So he does not know what amount you entered. Since there was another bidder (who probably wanted the knife), he (the seller) can offer the knife to him since the runner up offered almost the same amount like you... So the sale is not lost for him....

Good point David. The 2nd place bidder who wanted the knife but "lost", knowingly bid the amount he did. He'd probably be glad he got another chance and the Seller would get his $$$, exactly what your "winning" bid was.The Auto-Bid function only matches the amount the 2nd place Bidder bids and the "tie" always goes to the first bidder, the Maximum Bid bidder by default.
Whew... ;)

Final wrapup. The seller understood the situation and let me off the hook. Never heard from BA Help.

What is up with the crappy service at Blade Auction? First there was the problem of trying to get a bid retracted. I never heard from the Help Desk people and finally resolved it with the Seller.

Now I had an item up and when the auction ended I never received the Winner's info. I have searched the entire site and there is no way to find the winner's information there. You have to wait and hope that they send you the information.

I can't believe how poorly the operation is run.
