Blade Bored ?

It never gets boring because theres a lot of categories of cutting tools including Folders/Fixed Blades/Machetes/Axes/Hatchets/Tomahawks etc. I don't just collect and use folders, I buy all of the categories of cutting tools.

It happens from me from time to time, but then I find a new knife I like and there we go again

I'm about there, but it's not because I'm bored with knives.

I've got all of the fixed blades and folders that I really wanted, and I see none out there that I want as much as what I have kept. I have about 150 less than I did a few years ago, and I plan on getting my total collection down to about 30 if I can. Well, maybe 40 or 50. Doubt I will ever get down to 30.

I have bought a few this year after saying I wouldn't. So it is easier said than done.

I'm a collector and user of high quality, modern lightweight folders (4 oz or less) with blade lengths of 3" or more. That's not a category that gets a whole lot of action, so I'm constantly on the prowl for new offerings . . . particularly from companies who aren't necessarily known for making them. The ZT 0770CF is a perfect example of the kind of knife that keeps things interesting for me.

Sure, I often set the hobby aside and walk away for a few months now and again. The knife collection tends to be an indoors hobby, so it's more suited for the winter.

If I get bored with not finding interesting knives to buy, it's just because I'm not looking in the right places. :)

I go through periods where I'm content with what I own and use. But, I always see stuff I'm interested in. I just don't feel the burning desire to buy it right now like I just can't be whole unless I own it. That doesn't really happen anymore. I used to treat knives like Pokemon. I just no longer "gotta catch em all"!

I feel close to it, partly because I am having to sell of a bunch to get the bike sorted. Deciding to try and sell my backup TK1 felt like a I crossed some line in the sand.

But there are a couple of trads I have put off for a long time, which I'll likely get, and the Enzo PK70 rekindled some interest.

Otherwise I feel a bit knifed out, yes.

There are peaks where my interest dwindles due to my satisfaction with the current collection, but either another style of knife or company will stimulate my interest once again.

I keep thinking that I've reached the point where it would be pointless to buy another knife. (pun unintended) Of course before long something will catch my eye, and then after much scrutiny I justify one final knife will complete my collection. And the dance starts once more. It sounds relentless, I do enjoy each knife I buy, and the dance as it were, is a good way to spend some free time.

I am with most of the production knives, but the custom knives is a whole new world. It's almost endless.

Ditto for me.
Once I really looked at customs I became a bit of a snob towards the productions. I think it has more to do with the fact that I can have a "true" lefty knife, as opposed to a righty that you can swap the clip.. I do still want to eventually get something from ZT and Lionsteel though.

Yes. A few months ago, I almost posted a thread on BF, looking for suggestions on a quality modern production folder, thin, lightweight, 3" or less, with a deep carry clip. Then I started to list the ones I already had or had looked at...and I decided not to post because I'm pretty sure I knew them all. And there isn't much that's new-new, though I still look pretty often.

So another vote for: I will have to explore customs more to keep from getting too bored...

My knife buying comes in waves, I might not buy anything for a month or so and then get four or five new knives at once. Also, importing stuff into my country is a huge pain in the behind, so I can't really buy on impulse (I've got to fill out forms for the governement and so on).

I thought I was at that point years ago when my interest really waned - stopped rotating and just carried a plain Sebenza for over a year. Only knew of production knives then. Rekindled my interest with midtechs and customs and realize now the options are endless. The collection will always evolve and I get more enjoyment out of it now than I ever used to.

Kind of, in the means that I can't find joy anymore in hoarding production knives. Yes, I would like many of them, but I can't justify them.. and especially these days, you have money to put to other things too.

I have noticed myself to go towards custom/hand made knives now. Wait time is longer, but makes it somehow more exciting. It also enables you to tune your knives to exactly what you like.

Blade bored? Blasphemy!

No.
There are so many dimensions.
Custom vs production and everything in between.
Past, present and future.
There is literature out there, pictures, new media, shows and not to forget the people.
It's a topic that unites people all over the world.
Of course there is also misbehavior, but mostly knifepeople are good people (friendly, helpfull).

@ BobW: I believe knives are a topic all around the year. Summertime has different needs than winter.
Also when I'm outdoors I can put them to use. :)

Not bored, just content. Starting to look at more expensive, higher end stuff. Quality over quantity.
