Blade Bored ?

Hi all,

If bored and/or (as in my case) lacking funds for "Custom/Expensive" knives.....I suggest the following.....(for those who still don't own)....

buy a OPINEL (loving my new NO. 8 Olivewood Stainless)

buy a SVORD (mini Peasant)

collect old Carbon Steel Butcher Knives (I.E. "Old Hickory" and type) lots to be found a "Yard Sales/Flea Markets".

I'm finding that since I've gone down this Rabbit Hole, I'm no longer bored. Did I mention collecting old Hatchets/Axes ?

HARDBALL

I can't say I've reached a point of boredom, in fact just the opposite. There are enough knives that I want and little enough money in my wallet that I've hit a sort of blade depression. Every time I think I have all the knives I want I see something new, or a new company appears. For example, today I'll be sending the Reate Horizon A pass around knife on and knowing that I can't afford to buy one any time soon, that just adds to my depression. Hopefully I'll get my mitts on a Lionsteel SR2 here shortly so that will help a little.
This is a real coincidence.
Things were kind of diluting for me. But I just got the Lionsteel SR2 And it's making me much better.
What a sweet little knife. I got the red one.
Get one, it will help.
Cheers

I'll always have interests, even though I have what I need/want. I do have a couple of knives that will be worn out within a year or two that may get replaced.

I've never worn out a knife. You have a couple of knives that will soon be worn out? Just asking.

They are like the ring of power from Lord or the Rings for me. I know I shouldn't... money... but, I... I can't... resist... My precious... mine... IT'S MINE!!!!!! EHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!!!

It's happened a few times.
Your question is" then what ".

For me, I start with guns again, then flashlights, pens, crossbows, tomahawks, watches, knives I've never been interested in. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Somewhere in the process I go broke-completely, and start over.

For me, it's a cycle, not boredom, buy until the money runs out, convince myself I've got plenty of knives that I'll never use. Get caught up on the money and find yet another that just has to be in my collection. The great thing about this hobby is that it is affordable to all and with the vast range of knives to choose from, boredom is not an option.

Yeah it happens but doesn't last long. I got a couple Sebenzas and said I was done. Then had to try a Zaan and 25 and older regular Sebenzas which none worked for me. Time passed and was somewhat rotating the 9 or so production/midtech folders I had cut the collection down to. Boredom sets in and feel the need to try out a Strider and a Hinderer which I've both acquired and enjoy greatly. The triumvirate is complete. Now what? The Slysz Bowie looks appealing if it'll ever come out. Some of the Curtiss stuff is appealing as well. I should be happy as a hobbyist/user that I completed the big three honestly without breaking the bank, but one day boredom will set in at work or in a hotel room and some web browsing will yield a new want. It's a vicious cycle.

Seems like this can carry over into gun collecting as well....

There are 'users' who only seem to buy items they'll actually use daily/weekly
There are 'collectors' who just keep buying and put the knives in boxes/safes/etc.

Everyone has a hobby (or three), it depends what you are into. Some buy expensive cigars, others modify cars, some play guitars. Life is too short. Make sure whatever it is you are into, you get satisfaction from it. Otherwise, move on to something else.

It seems like I get hell bent on buying and lusting over a specific knife. I'll spend weeks researching on youtube reading reviews videos etc.. Shopping for the best price online and on forums. Than I'll finally pull the trigger and recieve the knife. Carry it, use it, put in my edc rotation etc. However, find myself back at it looking for the next blade. It truly is an addiction!

Have you reached a point in your collection where you have everything you like and nothing else interest you ?

Nope. Not Really. My interests change and my knife choices evolve and sometimes I go back to what I was comfortable with 20 years ago. The point is my interests change just like getting older changes how you do things. Hopefully you do things smarter as you get older.

Buda, I can't say that I dwell heavily on youtube videos when I choose a knife. Been around the block enough that I know what I like or have liked, and sometimes I reach out and try something new just for the fun of it.
