Thanks for the updates and pictures! Hope to see more pictures of your Rogers pearl sowbelly when you get home and things quite down!

Thanks again

Ken

Thanks for the little tastes of heaven, Gus . . . . .sigh . . . . .

Very nice, Gus! Those Rogers, Hanson and Tozaki folders are all super! That is some awesome bark ivory on Don's slipjoint.

Thanks for a glimpse of the show hardware!

Back home safe and sound after having picked up the pooch.

Had a blast with all concerned...friends old and new, makers, dealers and purveyors.

We'll have to get to the bottom of how ol' Robuck left his phone in the taxi on the way to the airport but remembered to call my wife to have it brought home to NC and then sent on to him. Hmmm, good thing I'm the trusting type. :p

Picked up a few nice ones and I'll try to have some images posted during the week.

Hope you all had a great time in our absence and upheld the forum tradition. ( ;):p)

Back on later. Things to do around the shack.

Looking forward to hearing more from you, (and that old hound dog Mike;)), when you get the chores done, Elliott!

Well, the chores ain't done but here's a few tidbits that come to (my muddled) mind. (I reserve the right to add or edit since I'm sure I'll leave out many moments and folks that deserve to be mentioned.)

A couple of highlights were meeting forum denizens Rick Menefee, Todd Davison (and his much better half) and "Big Al". Rick and Todd had some nice knives for sale and show & tell. Fun guys to visit with as well.

A particular treat for me personally was putting a face to the unofficial mayor of "Knifeville" our own mckgreg. A great guy to spend time with.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a couple of evenings at dinner with Jerry Halfrich and Mike Zscherny and their lovely wives (in addition to dinners with that scoundrel Robuck and my blood brothrer Bastid. ;))

Oh yeah, knives...Somewhere between the boozing, cigars and general tomfoolery there was time for that.

Well, the first knife I got at the show was a complete surprise. A Ray Laconico "Bowie" handled in ironwood that was given to me by our own "C-Nasty", Campbell as a gift. It was a very generous gesture and one I'm not likely to ever forget. The knife itself is a beauty and will definitely be a joy to own and hopefully use.

A couple of other gift knives for myself and my wife came from long time friends Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin of RAT Cutlery. Jeff and Mike gifted us a pair of Izula neck knives (though I'm a bit upset that I didn't get the pink one. :p)

The knives I was fortunate enough to purchase at the show were:

A stunning rendition of the Bose "Millennium Trapper" in old Case bone by Mike Zscherny. Mike changed the blade configuration some and the result is a true winner imho. (Pix will follow as time permits this week.)

My next acquisition, purchased while in a weakened state brought on by a seemingly endless supply of bourbon in Tony Bose's room was a stag handled 4" wharncliffe trapper also built by Mike Zscherny. (This knife was offered to me a few months ago by Lee Grogan and he finally hooked me at the show.)

Next up is a really nice modified wharncliffe trapper (4") in old German bone by John Howser. The knife is a gem and was a great buy in my opinion. John's doing some really nice work and it was a shame that health issues kept him from the show. The gents manning his table were kind enough to put me on the phone with him so I could compliment him on the workmanship. This knife will be carried and used. (A lot.)

And finally, LarryM brought a couple of knives by Bret Dowell to the show and I couldn't resist purchasing a nice little spear blade clothed in Westinghouse ivory micarta with a very nice fluted bolster (3 3/8"). Brett (like his buddy Rick Menefee) is doing some very nice, clean work that is being offered at a very attractive price. I couldn't resist putting the knife into my pocket. Bret, hope you make it next year.

I put in a couple of orders with Eugene Shadley for "down the road" and confirmed some others with Bill Ruple, Rusty Preston, Joel Chamblin, Don Morrow, Al Pendray and others. Hopefully they won't all be done the same week (or year).

Well, that's what comes to mind at the moment though I'm sure more will surface in a bit after I get some more tasks taken care of.

Hope everyone had a great time at the show and makes it home safe and sound with great memories to keep 'em company until next time.

Ron Newton and Kyle Royer. Kyle was awarded his J.S. stamp. All of his knives were absolutely stunning. Some excellent work from this young man who was a pleasure to meet.

Kit Carson (right) and a street person he was helping out. That is just the kind of guy Kit is.

Mike and Mike Ruth. Between Mike Jr and Kyle, it seems that the future of knife making is bright. It was great meeting these two young men. Both have excellent skills and are already gaining great reputations.

Thanks for sharing the show with us everyone! I can't wait to see some pictures of those knives Elliott.

Gus,

Kit's sense of responsibility for the downtrodden and debauched is why he's been such a good friend for so long. What a guy! :p

It's always great to see Ray. I hope he finds the time to post here more often. (It's been a bunch of years since I first introduced him to the forums.)

It was good to finally meet the "Troublesome Trio". Blues, Bastid and Robuck. They were all taller than I thought they would be. :D

Finally meeting Greg was a highlight for me.

Blues,

Next year bring the pup on down. He will have a great time with mine.

He's a little wound up this evening to say the least. Poor guy. :p

Thanks for the offer, Gus. Mighty kind.
