Blade coatings & finishes.

Nice job on that Zilla timmy, what were you using?

That is the result of an orange 80 grit belt on my HF 1X30. Ive rid the blade of decarb using a scotch brute belt, and all that remains is to reprofile the geometry a bit more, get the nice satin finish on the blade back, find new handle material, put a final edge on, and male a leather pants for it.

I'll never be done. :D Ahh. The joys of no time due to parenthood. I wouldn't change a thing.

I'll probly just paracord wrap the thing. Anyone know where a guy can get some copper rivets on the cheap?

yes it is. My favorite coating from busse is the original smooth coat. That stuff was near impossible to remove. The modern smooth green comes off much easier. The gritty sand paper feel of the ergo tan coating was also very tough

What do you think the coating on the green one below will not come off easily!
Is it modern smooth green?
Thanks for the information.

timmy ive got those bruiser KD scales off and ready to ship out whenever youre ready bud.

I think what he means is he has a set of scales if you need a set for your zilla instead of the para cord.

Got this done for an international buyer. Satin FBM Proto, sent to Ionbond for Diamond Black DLC. Turned out nicely. About a year ago he sent me an email detailing while fishing how a landed 14' shark got out of control on deck and was dispatched by this knife. No pix, unfortunately, but glad it's seeing use. :)
I took these before sending it to him.

Before. One of my sale thread pix.

After. Inside shot.

Outside, overcast daylight. Note the edge was actually coated as well (Handle slabs were removed for coating too, full knife DLC'd), but looks like it was resharpened post treatment... Just a reflection, he got to resharpen it, himself. :D

Dang....how much did the DLC cost on a blade that size? Was it Tetrabond or one of the others? I imagine if you used anything but it would affect the temper.

Was a little over $100 + FedX 2nd day air...the only way they ship...or did at the time. Pretty reasonable for a single blade custom order. DiamondBlack is an ADLC, takes 18hrs. to complete the process, but never exceeds 425°f, which is safe for INFI, and its HT. I have that straight from Jerry. :)
