Blade forums Buck Knife, want one?

I really like that 501, not too big, not too small

How about BG-42 steel, one handed opening/pocket clip, 7" or less overall length (for legal carry) and no blade etching. I think that blade etching beyond a small brand name or trademark makes a knife look cheap (i.e. Frost Cutlery).

I like the 532 and the 501 just as is. I really wouldn`t be interested in pocket clips or thumbstuds. Anyone else have any feeling on this?

The only problem with this process is that you folks are too stinking polite!

A 501 in BG-42 is something i know we can do cause we have. The 500 is something I'll bet we can do although we have'nt yet.
Thumb studs are a maybe and will add cost and time till delivery. Belt clips... The only way i can see this happen is if we use an existing belt clip from a diferent model and I'm afraid it will "look" like it went to a diferent model. A belt clip needs to be desinged for a particular knife in order to look good. Then tooling has to be ordered and made $$$
I hope I don't come across like i am trying to box you all in to a certain model? I am trying to "gently" guide the choices with a delivery date and cost in mind.

With that in mind, any last campaigns? If not, i will take a short recess and come back with your decision.

500,polished BG-42 and buffalo horn with pins. The pins seem to keep the rest of the handle from being scratched when the knife is set on its side... and with bufffalo horn that would be a shame. No clip. No thumb stud. No serrations. Sound good?

Joe,
I will try not to be polite!! I DEMAND a 501
with BG-42 and polished Asian water buffalo inlays. If you want a thumbstud, buy an aftermarket one and add it on yourself.
Seriously, the 500 is a bit too big to fit in my pocket and I would prefer no sheath.

500 or 501, BG42, thumbstud, thumbstud, thumbstud. Checkered wood rules, buffalo horn bites. (Actually, it can crack.) Polished blade, no etch. Medallion. It is OK to wait.

No belt clip. I agree with Joe, an adapted clip on the 500 series would probably look out of place.

I agree with JeffO. Or maybe Larry Oden.

Really want BG42, silver bolsters, buffalo scales, pins; no thumb studs, no clip.

Impolite enough?

O.K. (chest out, arms raised and flailing around, grunt-grunt)
1ST/ I INSIST REQUIRE AND DEMAND! that this be a BUCK KNIFE!
2d/ that it has a bg42 blade
3d/ I really like the 500 as it's my favorite buck,I have big pockets and anyway I doubt if it will be my daily carry because of it's rarety and special nature.
4th/ I don't have one with Buffalo handles it would be unique and cool. To pin or not to pin- flip a coin ?
5th/ Nickel silver bolsters is a great idea
6th/ Some kind of identifer that this is a special blade forum-buck edition would be nice.
7th/ thumbstuds, ya I like them but it would have to be at least a lefty meaning it would more than likely dual studs. Since It will probably be under glass, if they weren't there I wouldn't miss them
8th/ clips, how about quicktime movie clips of the making of the knives. That would work for me.

SO THERE!!(he said, turning and starting to smile as he goes to get another cup of kona)

Model #500 Duke with Buffalo handle. Pins? Don't care. BG-42 steel, and some sort of Bladeforums identification. Blade etching or Medalion, flip a coin. It has to have nickel/silver bolsters

Oh, and thank you Joe for getting this project done.

A 501 would be fine but the thing that made me decide that I want a 500 is the fact there are not to many supped-up 500s out there. The 501 has already been done. Once again, no clip, stud, or serrations. Pins would be fine but it does not really matter. If the cost of a 501 would be significantly less than I guess I'd have to vote for it instead. Just flip a coin Joe!

OK Joe;
A 501, BG-42,Nickle Silver bolsters, Horn handles, NO serrations, NO thumbstuds, NO clip, A nice little leather sleeve to put it in to protect it in the pocket would be nice. Amedallion in the handle would be much preferable to blade etching.
Thanks, Joe.

OK, here's a new idea. Dig up the Valox molds for the V52 and make a batch of handles, maybe in a cool new color like dark blue. Have a nice leather or nylon sheath made to hold the handle and two extra blades. Fire up the grinding machines and make a batch of clip point, drop point, and skinner blades in BG42. Mark the blades. One could keep a set of blades fresh and unmarked for display and another set for field use.

I like fudo's idea of a thin leather slip to protect it in the pocket. Too many of us carry other things in our pockets too. As an extra maybe???

Joe, have we come to any conclusion yet?

Sorry guys,
I had been doing the leg work on this one and neglected the thread. To be honest, I like Kevin's idea of a V52 Selector! I love that knife and the thought of one with BG-42 blades...yeah!
But alas, It only got 2 votes so its just not meant to be.
I am going to tally up the responses to see if the 500 or the 501 wins out. The good news is that we have BG-42 steel in house. The lead time on ordering that stuff is looong!
Take care,
