Blade Ideas

Beautiful! I want one!!!

"Campanion," by the way, is already a registered trademark for a somewhat sharpened pry-bar in the Becker line.

DOH! I shoulda known about that one, I have a BK9 after all.

How bout Chit-panion?:)

Sounds sort of like the HI Chitlangi Bowie to me. (Well, we've already got an HI Ang Khola Bowie....)

That is kinda the idea. Something consistent with the chit, but in a bowie package without the clip point and with fullers. Glad everyone likes it so far. Im getting ready to email the design to Yangdu to see what the potential cost would be to make something like this. Anymore input before I do?

I'd like a 15" Pen Knife with that sort of handle. Nice design by the way.

Hi HD:

Funny you should mention this. I wrote to Yangdu a few weeks ago asking to special order a Pen Knife in the 13-15" range with full tang and slab scale handles. She responded that the kamis were too busy right now.

Maybe some others would be interested, too, and a run could be made of them.

How would one go about getting something like this made?

Do like munk said and send an enquiry to Miss Yangdu. :D
Lefthand I really do like what you have come up with here, a very beautiful design and one I wish I had figured out!!!!
I'm kinda like JamesRay here and if it went for a $100.00 bucks or so I'd be really interested, like in Send Me One!!!! ;) :D
This is not only a very beautiful design it is also a very practical design as well and methinks it would make an excellent user as a camp knife or even a defensive Bowie style, something sorta reminicient of the Searle's Bowie in a roundabout way so to speak.  :D

Thanks for the compliments. It would be awesome if the price on something like this would be that low. Im thinking a very simple rugged blade, nothing too fancy, with a touch of the chitlangi style. A blade you would'nt be afraid to use, being strong enough for most tasks, yet fast enough in the hand if the need arises. I will see what I can find out. Just wondering if a blade like that could be made with the fullers the way they are, as I am no bladesmith.

Yup, that's a nice knife. I'd buy one, even if it cost $110 ..... :D

I'm thinking the price would have to be higher than $100 ~ you have the fullers plus a guard to fit and finish. Of course, I'd be happiest if it was free:D

Reminds me of some broken viking swords that I have seen that were reworked into daggers! Perhaps there is secret Nepali/Scandinavian technology swapping going on.

i think 100$ would be a little low consiering the general size of that knife.
consider that the ak bowie is 175$, 15" with a double fuller and a chiruwa handle, its pretty close to being the knife pictured, though the knife pictured has a gaurd.

i would rather pay between 150-200$ for it just to insure that yangdu is getting a good deal out of it as well (or whatever price that might be)

The other day when looking at the fine craftsmanship and beautiful fullers in my 20" chitlangi by Bura, I had an idea for a blade. Looking at the chitlangi where it bends, I thought it would be really sweet to make a smaller matching companion blade from the end of the fullered blade. The blade itself would be approx. 8 inches long with an overall length of 14". It would use a similar handle style to the chit, but would be a chiruwa handle and it would a incorporate a simple brass guard.

LHB evidently your mailbox is full or your mailbox doesn't like my email program because the email I sent you a bit ago bounced.:(
I was emailing to get the specs and then came back here and see that you've already pretty much posted them.;)

Personally I would prefer the standard Kangaroo Tail Tang as it would make the handles easier to rework if they didn't happen to fit as a person preferred.
Besides the Chiruwa handles fit and finish just leave a great deal to be desired IMO. Don't get me wrong, they're nice enough but the kamis don't have the precision tooling needed to get everything perfectly flat and often use a filler to make everything fit as it should.
I would also prefer a steel guard and butt cap, brass is okay but steel is just a helluva lot stronger. :D

Before we go sending this off to Miss Yangdu we need to get our ducks in a row.
Miss Yangdu isn't able to quote a potential price unless everything done to the last detail.
Saves a lot of trouble down the line, I keep thinking about all the problems with the 17" Foxy Folly.:( :grumpy:

Lets get everything all settled as to the specs and such and then let Miss Yangdu set the price if she even consents to having them made and then those of us who are willing to ante up can sign up for one, or three, and those who don't think they can afford it can make their choices. :D

Nice chit! :D

I wonder if it would look any better with this style of guard?

I guess with kermabits and sgian dubhs and everything else they are doing what can we expect? They are busy bees right now, and we're still getting great DOTD's too.

That siad I'd love to see a special run of these, and I say sign me up too. :D

Doh! That email no longer exists, you can contact me at summitbro@hotmail.com

Man, I did'nt know there would be this much interest in this idea. This is great. I am still pretty attached to the idea of a full tang blade, but your points are valid. I just really like the idea of the strength of a full tang. Also would be great if it could be radiused where it meet the handle. If they can also do a steel guard and buttcap, that would be all the better. Here is a quick list of the specs I had in mind that can be tweaked for details by the input I receive:

Overall length - 14"-15"
Weight - 19-23 oz.
Blade length - 8.5" - 9"
Handle length - 5" - 5.5"
Spine thickness - 3/8
Blade width at the widest point - 1 3/4"
Guard length - 3 1/4"
Guard thickness 1/4"
Guard width - 1/2"

If anyone can think of anything else to tweak or add, let me know.
